Sweet Retreat July 2025
The house has a nice view of the lake from a large deck. Easy lake access with a nice dock. The house itself is an older house, well used but pretty well maintained with large windows overlooking the lake. The multiple levels could be a problem for some people. The steps down from the kitchen/sitting area to the living room are non-standard heights and there is another small step down from the side bathroom to the front bedroom. We actually taped a sign on the step to remind us that it was there. Where we really began to have concerns was when we were settling into the kitchen. We found several dish towels and place mats that were stained and appeared as if they hadn't been washed, a baking sheet that appeared to have caked on food and a couple of oven mitts that were filthy. Most of the towels and wash cloths were old, many frayed or with holes in them and many of the white wash cloths had black stains on them. We contacted Heather with Big Fish about the issues. She was very alarmed and arranged to come by first thing the next morning with the head of the cleaning service to look into it. They both agreed that the dish towels, etc. looked horrible but had probably been washed but were so old, worn and stained that they didn't look like it. Heather immediately went out and came back with new dish towels, bath towels, oven mitts, baking sheet, etc. She went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable and we'll definitely consider booking through Big Fish in the future.
