'Gloednieuw (april 2019) en kraaknet apart-hotel, heel aangenaam voor een iets langer verblijf in Kyoto. De ligging is uitstekend, vlakbij de metro en Gion, maar toch een rustige straat net buiten het overdrukke deel van de stad. Achter de hoek zijn lekkere restaurantjes en koffiebars. Wij werden aangenaam verrast door de moderne en volledige uitrusting in de kamer (eigenlijk meer een studio dan een kamer). 'Super location and quiet room with real Japanese style bed on floor. Practical for trips into town or further since bus stops are right beside the building. Locally within walking distance there are ramen restaurants also temples and the Philosophers path. Suited me perfectly as I don't spend much time in hotel I like to be out taking photos. If I visit Kyoto again I would love to stay here again.'

'The area was very quiet which was nice but did mean it was a bit of a walk to the nearest shop. The check-in process was all automated and quite straightforward but be aware that the emails are sent in Japanese and I had to pop these in a translation app. The building is small but the room was a generous size. The place is slightly dated but very clean. '

'Great stay at the Sakaoue, very friendly staff. It was our first stay at a Ryokan and the staff took their time explaining everything we could expect and how to make use of all the facilities. They also gave us advice on where to go nearby and gave us tips on how to get there. Great stay, the room was spacious, clean and big and the Ryokan experience as a whole was definitely one I would like to repeat in the future.'

'The owner was very lovely and polite, he prep matcha tea for welcoming us also offering fresh bread making in the morning for our breakfast but my family were very tired from a long day travelling and activities we did in the area, we just want to sleep in so we had to miss out on that. House was clean. The bath was the highlight for us. Just the tap in both toilets a bit hard to operate so we had to wash our hands in the bathroom instead.'
