'The open-air private onsen in our room was the absolute best! The food was like artwork. The surrounding area was so beautiful. If you have any mobility issues, make sure you call for a pick-up from the bus stop, as it is an uphill hike to get to the ryokan. Also there are steep stairs inside.'

'Ideal location for visiting Kyoto. Entrance to the most useful subway line is right across the hotel at a 2 minute walk. Rooms are extremely spacious, about the biggest we ever had for this price. Subway prices are very cheap, around €5,- for a day pass. Located next to the international Convention Centre in a very good area. Also lots of shop within a 10 min. walk.'

'View Lodge Biwa is a really nice accommodation right on the lake shore at Manohama beach. Nice and quiet hotel with Japanese and western style rooms. The place is run by Chiaki (who is fluent in English) and her husband, who are excellent hosts.'

'People do say that property is dated however it is a "grand" hotel. The style is reminiscent of older hotels but that shouldn't bother you unless you're expecting state of the art facilites.'

'Absolutely amazing experience. Only feedback is to slow down the kaiseki dishes as it felt a bit rushed at times. But other than that, a perfect getaway. Highly highly recommend, especially for first time ryokan goers. The most important part of a ryokan is its food - and this was impeccable. Thank you!'
