« Great location, with loads of parking in the area and really close to the station (handy to get to Newcastle) and the seaside. The staff was helpful when we had an issue with the check in, and was always responsive to our requests. The room was alright, even though the bed wasn't exactly comfy, and the timed fan in the bathroom wasn't ideal at night. The best thing overall was the cafe, in which we went for all the three days. Hats off! The staff was amazing, and they could accommodate our...

« Room was exceptionally clean with a very comfortable bed. One of the double glazed window units was blown and required replacing and the ensuite was a little tired and needed upgrading. Breakfast was very good, as was the evening meal. Staff needed chasing up not keeping up replacing side plates, and keeping coffee pots full. Staff were quick to apologise and bring out replacements. We will almost certainly visit again, despite getting a few things wrong the staff were extremely friendly and...

« The valet parking was v convenient and the reception process slick. Loved the room- v clean and convenient with lovely view of the river. Bathroom and shower superb but we were bit surprised there was no shower gel - there were small bottles of shampoo etc and bar of soap but no gel. The Boldons : les avis sur les hôtels les plus prisés

Royal Station Hotel

8/10 Bien

"Conveniently situated right on the railway station. The hotel staff are friendly and efficient (if you don't get a beginner/trainee). There is a very good full English breakfast and my room had a refrigerator (not always the case in the UK). But it is hard to decide where the hotel sits on the scale "run down or faded charm". Some rooms (I know from a previous visit) have a considerable number of steps to negotiate after leaving the lift. Elderly travellers with luggage should be warned. There is a left luggage service, but only if you make a forced donation to a charity that you may not have chosen and the hotel computerised system is not reliable. I paid for my breakfast in advance and, wisely, printed out the receipt, but I was asked to pay again before leaving. It took a few minutes for them to see that the mistake was theirs. Thank goodness I was able to show the receipt. The letters I received from the hotel were very unpleasant. They were standard letters addressed to "Dear First Name"--but the hotel could not even be bothered to include my first name. Why on earth do they not start their letters with "Dear Guest"? It is a minor quibble, but it shows a lazy lack of respect and courtesy."

Sandman Signature Newcastle Hotel

8/10 Bien
