The owner needs a new property manager
I notified the owner that we’d be arriving around Noon and she responded that it wouldn't be a problem. The manager would be on site to meet us, hand over the key, and explain appliances, etc.
Nobody was there, but we were directed to a lockbox which was not easily accessible and took some time to open. Once we retrieved the key we inserted it and turned it in the door. There was an audible click, but the door wouldn’t budge despite multiple attempts. We’d now been there for at least an hour. I contacted the manager and was told somebody was on the way. We waited another half hour and nobody came. I was told he was stuck on a train. Another half hour passed and I was told that someone else would be coming by bus because the train was “really stuck”.
When I questioned how long this was all taking I was told we weren’t supposed to be there as early as we arrived and they should have been given at least 48 hours notice - they had been given two weeks notice. Meanwhile we were left standing in the cold, tired and hungry.
In all we waited nearly three hours for someone to show up. Turns out this was a double lock and once the first lock clicked open you needed to keep turning the key to open the second lock which was a deadbolt. The manager never explained this to us.
The person who finally got us in the apartment spoke very little English so she could not respond to how the heat or appliances worked. And it was freezing in there! Turns out the door to the balcony was open.
