This rhino had already been de-horned, to protect it from poachers. There is a huge black market in China and Vietnam, who stupidly believe that powdered rhino horn (which is made of keratin, I.e., fingernails) has curative powers. This rhino has been dehorned, but a new horn will grown from the bud. Even this little nub has such a high value that poachers will saw even this bit off, using a chainsaw. Needless to say, it usually kills the animal. A single rhino horn can fetch $300,000 on the black market, mostly in Vietnam where people think it cures cancer. There are essentially no rhinos in Mozambique, Of course, the poacher receives far less, but still a great amount of money for these impoverished countries.
It was rare to find a lion out in the open like this. Near dusk, he blinked sleepily as our Range Rover crept past - while roaring for his pride.

Les safaris étaient super ! Le ranger et le tracker ont été parfaits. Le jardin de l'hôtel est splendide et les différents salons très agréables. C'est un havre de paix. Par contre, les piscines ne sont pas très propres, eaux troubles et pas très propres.
