This home is 5 miles from the Canaan Valley Resort and Ski Area. Whitegrass Cross Country Skiing is 5.5 miles away. We cannot control weather and skiing conditions.

Tucker County has 4 breathtaking seasons to enjoy. In the winter, we pick up much of our annual 150 snowfall from the Great Lakes whenever strong Northwesterly winds drop out of Canada. Spring brings some of the best hunting and fishing, and wildflowers. Escape the heat of summer where temperatures rarely exceed the mid 80s. Autumn brings cool temperatures and blazing colors of our extensive hardwood forests.

Great location for winter

A great property that would be better with AC or in the winter. We knew it didn’t have AC before going but thought it would be fine. It was very warm and uncomfortable. The ceiling fans were not great, they were very noisy and not very effective. We loved the location and the lay out of the house. It worked perfect with kids upstairs and parents on the main floor. The hot tub was great. An excellent amount of towels were provided. And having a washer and dryer was also a nice bonus. Upon arrival there was a note from housekeeping that they couldn’t finish the laundry so the first 30 minutes was spent folding towels and sheets. But the house was clean. Not sure I would advertise a swimming pond as it didn’t look swimmable but you could fish there. With all that said we would go back and stay there again as long as the temperature was under 60. The only other issue we had was the coffee pot didn’t work properly. As noted in other reviews the furniture wasn’t the most comfortable. The beds were pretty firm which half our family liked. Check in and out was easy and communication prior to arrival was good.

Our trip

The property was very clean and organized. The kitchen had many kitchen supplies and a wonderful dish washer. A large 6 people dining room table and nice picnic table too. It is very spacious downstairs and upstairs area. The internet worked well. It was wonderful to have washer and dryer too. The house has plenty of bath towels and separate hot tub towels. It does have a Charcoal grill. The house don't have AC , but does have roll out windows and ceiling fans. The hot tub does get real hot and one of the jets are broken. The living room furniture is not that comfortable to sit on.

The house was well equiped and in a nice neighborhood.

We spent several days hiking in each of the local parks/wilderness areas. I'm not sure the air conditioning ever worked but it was so pleasant at night that we didn't need it.

A great getaway

Very nice, well equipped house. Enjoyed the gas fireplace on the cool, damp mornings and the hot tub after a day of hiking. We enjoyed hiking at Blackwater Falls, Seneca Rocks, and Dolly Sods. Restaurants are still carry out only due to Covid so we prepared our meals at “home”. The kitchen had everything we needed.

We enjoyed our weekend at Mountain Shadows! It was very clean & comfortable. We used the hot tub & cooked a meal in the kitchen, which was nicely stocked in terms of utensils & kitchen supplies. We thought it was very affordable, especially being so close to Timberline ski slopes. Only minor negative was the furniture could have been more comfortable but overall, we had a very nice stay. Would definitely recommend... thank you!

Cozy Thanksgiving Retreat

Our family really enjoyed out stay! We had everything we needed to cook up a big meal. The cabin was clean & spacious with relaxing views and charming decor. The beds were very comfortable. We also loved the community's access to walking/hiking trails right outside our door. My boys loved to go and see the horses and hike up into the hills a bit. Overall, a nice spot for a family getaway. A few things could use some updating: The hot tub was more of a soaking tub, as only one jet remains functional, but we enjoyed warming up in it every evening. If we had been skiing all day, we would have really wanted the jets. The mechanism on the fold away bed in the loft is broken on one side, making it tricky to stow away. The kitchen needs some new oven mitts, as the holes in the current ones don't protect hands.
