Guests will enjoy the rich history of whaling, dairy operations, abalone fishing, and canning which were among many thriving business that A.M. Allan operated on this historic property dating back to 1898. This level home is perfectly situated to maximize the views of Point Lobos and is just a few steps to Monastery Beach — famous for diving and pounding ocean swells. Take pleasure in the sweeping panoramic ocean views of Point Lobos and a white sand beach as your backyard. Scuba divers come from far and wide to enjoy the kelp forests, otters, seals, whales and other wildlife found in the waters off Monastery Beach. Hardwood floors, fireplace and large glass panels blur the lines between indoor and outdoor living. 3 cottages on property. Two 2 bedroom one 3 bedroom.

Amazing location!! There is a trail steps away from the home and the beach is your backyard. Our dog enjoyed hanging out in the enclosed yard we had. Sea Otter Cottage is very cute and cozy.Communication with the host was great.We enjoyed our stay and would love to return.

A Cottage Oasis!

My experience at the Sea Otter Cottage was pure bliss. We immediately felt comfortable- The cottage was clean and cozy. I'm an over packer who brings items "just in case", and they had everything you could need. The kitchen was well stocked, and the beds were really comfortable. Now to the outside.... WOW! The Sea Otter Cottage has a fenced in patio which was awesome to have with 2 dogs. The shared yard space was out of this world with multiple benches and seating areas to take in the breathtaking view. I've never felt more relaxed then sitting outside with a glass of wine taking it all in. The morning walks on the beach with the pups were priceless. There is no other rental property out there like the Cottages at Monastery Beach- You can't go wrong with staying at any one of the cottages on this beautiful property. I can't recommend enough, and I hope to be back again in the future!

Hidden Gem of Carmel

Perfect location for us. I love dining and shopping in the downtown, but not staying in the downtown. Very private, very quiet, very peaceful, and close to everything worth being close to. The only downside is the beach, which absolutely destroyed my feet, but a breathtaking view no doubt. I wish I could've stayed for a month!

Another excellent experience! A

This makes the fourth time hubby and I have stayed at one of these historic cottages. Each one is a jewel, each in its own unique way. This time we were in the Sea Otter, which is our preferred cottage since it is just the 2 of us.The views and access to the beach are unparalleled. And the cottage itself is very comfortable and well appointed with all the necessities plus more. Other than the initial grocery shopping trip at the large market only about 1.5 miles away, and Psalm Sunday mass at the Carmel mission (less than 5 minutes drive away), we stayed in and enjoyed the blissfully intoxicating sounds of waves and birds, watching as the weather and beach providing an everchanging scenery.The walk just behind and to the side of the cottages provides an amazingly beautiful stroll about the beach. You can go for 20-30 minutes (each way) up to a cross, and opt for a higher level hike at some points if you wish. The mission is visible near the end of it.We shall continue coming back as long as we are able. Thank you to the family for allowing others to enjoy the beauty and history of your cottages! :)

A beautiful place in the world!

The Sea Otter cottage offers a peaceful, secluded spot where you are surrounded by nature. Beautiful sunsets are breathtaking and observed from the cottage, the patio or the beach. Steps away is access to costal trails yet it is conveniently located to attractions, dining and shopping. The beds are comfortable and the kitchen is well stocked.A wonderful place to enjoy your morning coffee. Thank you for sharing this special historic place!

Anniversary trip

The view alone is worth staying here. We had both back doors open any time we were there. The layout is perfect for enjoying the sound of the waves and the view of the sunset. The house is also perfectly located for being able to do day trips to San Francisco or Big Sur. If you are looking for a place to stay that is cozy and has amazing views you found it.

Fabulous location! The cottage was clean, comfortable and well stocked. Lots of nearby trails to hike, and a lovely patio to enjoy the sunset over Point Lobos. Despite being right on the beach, it still felt secluded and peaceful. We hope to come back again soon!

Hard to beat

There are very few beach side properties to rent in the area. We scouted this place out the previous year and booked it straight away. Great location and pretty easy access to anywhere on the peninsula. Great views of Point Lobos etc. and loved the history associated directly to the founder.

Incredibly Special Property

My husband and I have been fortunate to spend 3 anniversaries on this property- 2019 in the Whaler's, 2021 in the Abalone, and this year in the Sea Otter Cottage. We LOVE all 3 of them. This location is so amazing- incredible views of the beach, ocean and Point Lobos. All 3 are very well equipped, maintained and cleaned. The Whaler is obviously better suited to larger groups, due to its size. The Whaler and Abalone have more unobstructed ocean views from the large windows, however, the Sea Otter has the benefit of more privacy/seclusion since it is tucked back in a bit. We preferred this location, as it also comes with more direct, private beach access. We would stay here every year if we could. If you are lucky enough to be able to find any of these open during your dates of travel, book it! You will not be disappointed.

Perfect vacation

The Sea Otter cottage surpassed our expectations. The cottage is beautiful, cozy, and has all the comforts of home. We enjoyed cooking every meal because the quality of every kitchen item from pots and pans to knives were top notch and in new condition. We loved the private patio with our own path down to the beach. The views are breathtaking! It was the perfect vacation for us. Definitely will book again.

Convenient location

We enjoyed our stay at the cottage. It was convenient to places we visited and the views were beautiful. The kitchen is well equipped and nicely laid out. The couch is very comfortable. I gave it four stars because the smaller bathroom is so tiny that it is hard to use the toilet and its door does not lock or even latch. Also, the hall rugs are loose and I tripped a few times on them.

Wonderful beach cottage

Very pleasant rustic small cottage right on Monastery Beach which is more secluded than the main Carmel Beach. I was by myself with my dog, and it is perfect for that purpose. But it also would be for 4 people. Excellent kitchen equipment, very easy to cook meals and eat on the patio, weather permitting. Good beds, fluffy towels, and at night only the sound of the waves to help you sleep. Carmel Meadow Trail is one of the most beautiful ones in the region, full of flowers, sweet scents and gorgeous views of Point Lobos. Somewhat on the expensive side with all the ad-ons, but if you can afford it, you won't regret it. I would highly recommend it.
