We stayed at the Royal Cancun resort by Holiday Inn and overall had a very good experience. The property is well maintained, clean, and the rooms were excellent. The food was also very good, and what really stood out was the staff they were extremely helpful, friendly, and consistently went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable.
However, there were a couple of disappointing experiences that are worth mentioning.
On our first day, we were approached by a sales representative and pressured into attending a timeshare presentation. This required us to travel to a sister resort and spend around two hours there. For first-time visitors, this felt inappropriate and quite intrusive. Guests should be able to relax and enjoy their stay without being pressured into sales presentations, especially for something as significant as a timeshare.
Additionally, the tour operator on-site, Thomas More Travel, was another letdown. While one of our excursions was canceled last minute (we did receive a refund), the other excursion itself was fine. However, on the return journey, the driver made an unexpected stop at a shop selling souvenirs, tequila, and cigars. We later found out that the items sold there were overpriced and not authentic including the cigars and alcohol. This was very disappointing and felt misleading.
