My partner and I recently stayed at the Tess Hotel, and while the property itself is beautiful, our experience with staff left much to be desired.
We arrived around midnight and valet service was not available, so we had to park around the corner. At check-in, we were issued a key to Room 829, only to find it was already occupied…an uncomfortable and surprising situation. When we returned to the front desk, the desk agent seemed inconvenienced rather than apologetic.
We later requested a one-hour late checkout and were told it would cost $25, which felt inflexible given the earlier issues.
After checkout, we used our destination credit for brunch. We were not greeted or directed and had to ask whether we should seat ourselves or wait. We were eventually directed to the bartender with the red neck tattoo. The coffee was room temperature and served without a carafe. While the food was delicious and our server was great, the bartender could improve in attentiveness and hospitality.
The overnight auditor and bartender both came across as aloof. As someone who has worked in a leadership role in the hospitality industry for over a decade, I was disappointed by how uncomfortable and undervalued we were made to feel.
That said, the room and facilities were very nice. I would consider returning, but staff engagement and guest care need improvement to truly match the quality of the property.
