## Emplacement

The Place du Capitole is the heart of the city. This lively square is surrounded by beautiful buildings such as the Capitole, a 16th century building housing the City Hall and the Theater. Behind this prestigious eight-columned building is a 16th-century keep, the former Archives Tower, which is now the headquarters of the tourist office. Then make way for the remarkable religious monuments of the old city: the Saint-Sernin basilica and its octagonal bell tower, a masterpiece of Romanesque art; the conventual complex of the Jacobins, a jewel of Languedoc Gothic art, with its beautiful brick church and its cloister. The attractive banks of the Garonne, notably the Promenade Henri Martin and the Daurade district, are ideal for strolling and sunbathing. The lively streets of the historic center are lined with a large number of cafés and boutiques. Ideal for shopping or for sipping a drink at one of the many terraces.
