After a 24-hour journey, which included a 16-hour flight and transfers without sleep, we finally arrived at The Okura Hotel in Japan.
Receptionist asked me to provide my credit card for the deposit. I explained that I would pay for the room in cash and use the credit card only for additional expenses. However, ignoring what I said, she tried to charge the full cost of the hotel to my credit card. I repeated that I wanted to pay in cash, and then she asked me to show them the cash.
I did as they asked, but she said the payment had to be in yen. So I started exchanging my money for yen using the machine at the hotel. I had already exchanged about two-thirds of the room cost when the machine malfunctioned and failed to return my money.
I informed them that the machine was not working and that only a small part of the payment was left. However, ignoring how exhausted we were, he said that the room would only be provided after full payment. He then gave us the address of an exchange office to convert the rest of the money.
Exchanging the money took about several hour, and finally, after much stress and exhaustion, they gave us the room we had booked for eight nights. Whether what they did was right or wrong is for you to judge, but for us, it left nothing but a bad memory.
