Mazatlán’s Historic Center – Culture, History, and Charm at Every Turn

Mazatlán’s Historic Center, also known as “Old Mazatlán,” is one of the city’s most iconic and vibrant areas. Its restored colonial architecture, cobblestone streets, and bohemian atmosphere make it a must-see destination for both tourists and locals.

Ideal for:
Leisurely strolls, enjoying an al fresco dinner, discovering local history, or simply letting yourself be swept away by the charm of the most authentic Mazatlán.

🚶‍♂️ On foot
The best way to explore the Historic Center is on foot. The streets are narrow, cobblestone, and full of life.

Everything is close by: Plazuela Machado, the Ángela Peralta Theater, restaurants, cafés, museums, and the boardwalk are just a few minutes’ walk away.

🛺 Pulmonías (Mazatlán’s traditional vehicles)
They’re like open-top golf carts—very popular and iconic. They’re ideal for short trips around downtown or rides along the boardwalk. There’s no fixed fare, so negotiate the price before getting in (ask how much when you get in or agree on a price with the driver).

🚕 Taxis and ride-hailing apps
Traditional taxis are available in the area. Uber and DiDi operate in Mazatlán and can be cheaper than a taxi or a “pulmonía” for long distances.

🚲 Bicycles or Scooters
There are areas along the boardwalk where you can rent bicycles or electric scooters.
You can use them to explore the boardwalk or cover long distances comfortably.

🚌 Public transportation
There are city buses that connect downtown with other areas of Mazatlán (such as the Zona Dorada or the Aquarium), though they can be confusing for tourists.

They’re an affordable option, but not as convenient if you’re not familiar with the routes.
