This memorial dedicated to the Navajo Code Talkers (Wind Talkers) is located within Window Rock Tribal Park. Speaking in their own language the Wind Talkers were responsible for the taking of Iwo Jima during World War II. Learn more at http://navajonationparks.org/htm/veterans.htm . Located about 20 miles North of Highway 40 within the Navajo Nation it is well worth a visit.
Window Rock is a small city that serves as the seat of governmental capital of the Navajo Nation, the largest territory of a Sovereign Native American Nation in North America. It lies adjacent to the Arizona and New Mexico state lines. This photo was taken in WINDOW ROCK NAVAJO TRIBAL PARK & VETERAN'S MEMORIAL, this park near the Navajo Nation Administration Center features the graceful Redstone Arch for which the capital is named. More recently, the Navajo Nation has built a Veterans Memorial at the base of Window Rock to honor the many Navajos who served in the U. S. military. Many Navajo soldiers are recognized in the annals of history for their role as Code Talkers, whereby they used the Navajo language to create a code that was never broken by the enemy. Historians credit the Navajo Code Talkers for helping to win World War II.
Capital of the Navajo Nation. Huh? Well, all native american tribes in the US are considered sovereign nations in that they are able to govern themselves. Window Rock is the home to Navajo tribal offices, and home to the Navajo Nation President and Council.

Nous avons aimé le décor et l’ambiance de el rancho. Beaucoup de clochards dans la ville de Gallup et aux abords de l’hôtel.
