This school resides just off the access road to the highway. What I found interesting about it was the statistics to go along with the students going to this elementary school. The first being the student to teacher ratio residing at about 14.6 meaning that classroom sizes are relatively small which should suggest that the children are getting a better education because of more teacher time for the students. Yet instead the average test scores lay in the 40th percentile of all of North Carolina. On one site "Schooldigger" the school was given 2 out of 5 stars and ranked low at 849 out of a total of 1414 North Carolina Elementary Schools. Another very interesting fact is that the discounted and free meals distributed throughout the school is at an all time high this year at 99.3% recipients. Did something happen in the community to explain this change in financial status, or are people just taking advantage of the access to free and discounted meals for their children? #appalachianechos

This is the speedway located in Wilkesboro, it was closed down in 1996. The track was originally made in 1949 and hosted NASCAR's top three series. Due to financial concerns, the track was actually not built in a perfect oval shape as well as it not being completely level as it has an uphill stretch, and a downhill stretch. In 1956 the track was paved and used throughout the years until 1996. #appalachianechos
This park was closed off to my with fences and barbed wire. As you can see I got a little frustrated and instead of picturing the the actual park, there is a photograph of the obstacles in my way. Yet this dreary scene is not the one that shows its true colors. If you were to look it up online, you would see the many festivals and events hosted here such as lawnmower races, agricultural fairs, and 4-H exhibits. Most of these events include music, dancing, and wrestling matches to entertain the adults and children alike whether through participation or spectation. #appalachianechos
