I booked this this cabin after reading one review that said "best surprise". And i have to agree! This cabin advertised as able to sleep 6 and it fit our family of four perfectly (Mom, dad, 13yo, 9yo). The cabin was just off the main strip, sat right on the beach, and was so clean! (Rose Marie, the housekeeper, had the place looking and smelling brand new, i hated to let my boys go inside, lol!) I will highly recommend this place to my friends and will remember this for any future trips. Of the places to stay in Mackinaw City, i cant recommend this one enough.
Overall, it was a good experience. Location to ferry and downtown mackinaw was good. Cabin was good size for what we wanted. Right on the beach. However the beach is very rocky. Make sure to have water shoes for the kids. Check in was good, except being told we could check in at 1pm and showing up at 3pm and the unit was being cleaned at that time. So we had to wait until 4pm. We would stay there again. Gave location a 3 because the cabins sit behind a run down lookin hotel that is still operating. Kind of a odd location but nice to be on the beach.
We were so happy we decided to stay here instead of a hotel room! We could see the bridge from our porch and see it light up at night. Plenty of room on the porch for our family to sit out and we were right on the beach to walk out and enjoy. We could watch the Arnold Transit ferry coming and going, see the islands. Great atmosphere. The cabin was fresh and clean and comfortable. Bring your own bedding for the futon, there was not enough in the cabin. Everything else we needed was there. We stayed in June.
The cabin was great. We really enjoyed it. It was very relaxing waking up to the sun and the water. We had a problem with the TV's the first night, and left a message for the host, a maintenance person was there to fix them within 10 minutes. He changed one TV and got a new remote for the other one. Like many of the reviews, the cabin did not have a broom and because it is on the beach, the floor was covered the first night. I would give it a 5 star if there was a way to clean the floor. We hope to go back next year.
The cabin itself is wedged in between to less than desirable motels. Trash was on the beach and really no privacy. Inside the cabin was exactly as described. Fairly clean with an occasional cob web. Our biggest problem was the AC unit. The 1st night we just assumed it needed time to cool down. When we left the following day we left it on but just on fan. It just so happened to be 80 degrees and it kept freezing up when we turned it on after arriving home. The maintenance man was quick to respond but there want honestly anything that could be except turn it off which we did. It was extremely hot in the cabin and we couldnât open the windows bc there was always a party going on on the beach and people would be walking right outside of the cabin. So both night we stayed in an extremely hot uncomfortable cabin. I would not stay here again. Location is close to the ferry but the placement of the cabin allows for zero privacy if you need to open up the windows to sleep.
The cabin is new and very clean. The description says two bedrooms but the bunk beds are in a hallway, not a separate bedroom. We had the max amount of people, 6. The cabin does not comfortably fit 6, I would say 4 max. The bunk beds have plastic mattresses, very hard for an adult. The cabin is great for a family of four, would not suggest more than that. The view from the front is very beautiful. You have to park in an old motel, very tight squeeze for vehicles. Cabin is close to everything in town.
Enjoyed our stay. Location is great. Right on the beach and close to town.
Very pleased. Although the mattresses on the beds are very hard.
Would suggest the following to make guests more comfortable: hooks for clothing and wet towels. There is no place to hang anything in the bedrooms or bathrooms. Waste basket in bathroom. Fitted sheets on bunk beds. Another chair by the couch area. Stools at breakfast bar nice.
Take the plastic off light in bunk bed area. Not safe and could melt to glass if it hasnât already.
New Broom. I will upload photos.
It was a nice lil cabin tucked away behind a Hotel, not a spot you would think, but the Cabin sits right on the beach & you can sit on the porch & enjoy the sunrise & sunset every day & night, or on the beach in the nice chairs & loungers on the beach, we enjoyed the fires at night, jst need to go get the wood (The Mall, convenient store right up the road was the best & cheapest $5 bundles) dont buy from the gas syations $9.99 bundkes.we will be back!! The cabin was clean & smelled of fresh wood!! Brds are all very firm, Futon, bunks & queen bed.excellent cabin for the price!!
it was so convenient to have a cabin right on the water. we had fun splashing around and rock hunting. it was easy to get to the ferry for Mackinac Island and close to shops.
The automatic door lock gave us some trouble, we had to call maintenance a couple of times to help us get into the cabin. thankfully, the staff at The motel were super helpful and prompt. shout out to the maintenance guy, scott. He was awesome. Communication with the host was basically nonexistent.
Overall we were comfortable, but there were some areas that could be improved. 1. There were no sheets for the sofa bed. 2. The bathroom door did not fully close and lock. I recommend that they put a garbage can as well as some towel racks in the bathroom. 3. I recommend providing actual coffee mugs, the paper cups provided started to burn in the microwave.
I want to start off by saying we did not feel unsafe at all! Some of these reviews are dramatic. It is behind an older hotel but itâs not scary and no one is going to get you. Cabin was new and clean. The door lock batteries died and we couldnât get in but they came out to fix it within 5 minutes. I messaged the host on here a couple times and didnât get any reply back so communication wasnât that great. I would suggest to add a full length mirror, hooks for towels and a broom for indoors. The outdoor table needs replaced also. The hot water gets VERY hot so be careful. Great view as you can see the boats take off and you can see the island. AC works great but we couldnât get the remote to work for either TVs. Overall we had a good stay.
On good side, Cabin was new or nearly new and clean. Cabin is located at end of lengthy, low quality, vacant motel lot. Our immediate concern was that we could be easily robbed or mugged. I made a lengthy video leading down to the cabin showing all that is not shown nor advertised including an empty pool. I have been using Vrbo for several years and this not the quality I am accustomed to having. Also price per night was $340+ far in excess (more than double) of other good motel rooms in area. Property manager would not consider full or partial refund and seemed determined to âstick it to usâ. Do not book it without written satisfaction guarantee!!!
We enjoyed staying at the cabin again. Had a chance to enjoy the lake and beach front. Jodi was very responsive to any questions we had.
Weâll be back next year.
The cabin was clean, no spiders inside. Super super hot water. We walked down the beach to the ferry. I didnât realize until I seen the recent reviews that the cabin is behind an old motel. The view is still awesome, but I wish the old swing set could be removed. People walking by the bedroom window late at night. Still enjoyed our stay.
I'll explan the rankings.
1. indoor cleanliness=5. Outdoor (porch)= 1--I have never seen so many spiders in my entire life, I actually tried to get them off off things and literally within 1-2 hours later they were coming back. I know spiders are more a sign of another food source, which, when outside, would mean mosquitoes, and truly we did not see any mosquitoes while we were there-- but-- it might have been nice if someone had swept them off the day before, the amount of spiders/ webs present would have taken days at least to develop. (we could tell from the temperature of the inside that it had not been opened up in at least a few days too)
The cabin for us cooled off just by opening front/ rear windows otherwise the air conditioning sort of barely cooled the unit. (but our temperatures weren't that high either so we just had to figure out to open the windows)
2. amenities themselves were definitely new; couldn't tell if any of the dishes had even been used. I would have wished for a dish cloth (not just towel), but we made do-- and would have wished for some kind of hooks or towel racks in the bathroom-- I think because it was so new they had not put up any hooks anywhere except next to the entrance, but with beach towels (and no way were we putting them on the porch for obvious reasons! ) and then the bath towels it was a bit of a challenge.
3. This place had the hottest water-- it was a good thing bordering on dangerous.
