'Excellent location (shopping areas, public transport), friendly staff, great view from the room (33rd floor). Interior hotel and room design is getting a bit outdated and could use a refresh, including the bathroom. Would still recommend because of the positive items of this review.'

'Newer hotel, definitely not a 5 star hotel in room, service and breakfast quality. Bathroom smaller than one in Holiday Inn Express. Although rooms were paid in advance at arrival a relative high amount of bail was asked for and the small amount of tourist tax had to be paid directly and could not be put on the bill at check out. 'I stayed at Yugen Kyoto Shijo and it was honestly the best hotel of my entire trip! The hotel is new, super clean, and beautifully designed modern but with a lovely traditional Japanese touch. The location is very central and perfect for exploring Kyoto. The staff were always incredibly kind, attentive, and made sure everything went smoothly during my stay. The room was spacious and comfortable, which is rare in Japan where most hotels have very small rooms. For the price I paid, it was amazing...
