Our stay at the grand Naniloa was ok. I would say 3 stars. Not 4 and it wouldn't allow me to unclick that 1 star. Staff was great but the only down fall I really hated about staying here is because I feel they did not accommodate the guests parking at their property. Every parking stall in the property was only valid for valet parking which was $25. Can u imagine paying that for everyday of your stay. They make you park across the street in a remote empty parking area where there is low light visibility, pavement had really big and small potholes, no security whatsoever, felt unsafe. Why do they have to make all parking stall just for valet? I find that very inconvenient and it's like they was punishing their guests and just wanted our money.

The staff misguides you with regards to parking service. They charge $25 per day for valet service but there is a free parking lot right across the hotel. We had also requested daily cleaning service (we were a family of four in a room with two Queen beds). They did not provide daily cleaning and when asked why they said "the staff probably ran out of time". As compensation they offered to refund the resort fee for that night but it showed up in our final bill. They also only provide 2 bottles of water per check in which is absolutely bizarre for a booking of 4 occupants. The rooms are clean but the property amenities are just okay.

There is nothing wrong with the property. It is a slightly bit dated, but it is a great place to stay. I have stayed here for both business and leisure. The location is good however, it is surrounded by other run down locations. I assume big storms have ravaged this location. Overall, I will continue to stay here while on the Hilo side of the Big Island. There is a smell of mold on the building entry passageway from storms impacting the carpet. Once you enter into the room the mold smell is gone. Rooms are clean and well kept by housekeeping. Parking is an issue here. You are forced to valet or self park a short walk from the hotel. Restaurant near the pool has excellent food. I recommend the Açaí bowl for morning breakfast. Pancakes are awesome as well. Thank you for the great stay!

The rooms and lobby were pretty good overall but property in serious need of painting. Building/decks had mold on them…pretty much all over property. Two buildings next to property were abandoned and apparently used by homeless and have drug issues there. We didn’t feel unsafe on property but would not walk from there. The canyon trees very cool lining street but area itself was pretty sad.

Upon registration, we were charged a resort fee of $46/day plus $25/day for mandatory valet parking. Parking on the road outside of the hotel was free. We inquired about the overflow parking lot across from the hotel and that was $25/day as well. I find these charges to be excessive, especially charging for a parking lot across the street. It also took over 30 minutes to check in so that was not efficient. I have stayed at the Naniloa many times over the years, but I will probably not be going back there.

The hotel hasn’t been kept up on the outside. The pool is as big as a backyard pool and the restaurant is poor. They charged a resort fee but this isn’t close to being a resort.

I know it’s an old hotel and been renovated. The corner of my bathroom floor by the toilet which should be easy to see when toilet is cleaned by maid that was dusty from a utility door on the wall right next to the toilet that opens to the pipes of the shower. Apparently it was opened and the dust came from there and was never cleaned. Surprised to see a partial glass wall separating the bathroom and room with a curtain for privacy in the bathroom and with only one towel rack. Do like the microwave and refrigerator. Appreciated the complimentary drink coupons given at check in. The hallway was a challenge to pass the maid cart with your suitcase or just walking pass the maid cart.

We enjoyed our stay at the Grand Naniloa Restaurant, but feel the parking should be free. To tip each time the car was retrieved from 50 yards away was crazy. Plus have a $25 parking fee tacked on for each day we were there. Too much. Otherwise, excellent property and would highly recommend it to anyone.

This was my second stay at this property and it was as good as my first stay. All the staff that I interacted with were friendly, courteous and helpful. The room was beautiful and very comfortabe. I will stay here everytime I visit Hilo.

The Grand Naniloa is situated directly on the coast, and we reserved a room with a balcony. The view is breathtaking, and the balcony enables us to keep the sliding door open for the majority of the day. I strongly recommend investing a bit more to secure a room with an ocean view and a balcony. While other sections of the hotel offer ocean views, the floor-to-ceiling windows do not open, preventing guests from enjoying the refreshing ocean breeze. The hotel staff are amiable and are undoubtedly one of the establishment's assets. I assigned the hotel a relatively low rating for several reasons: The hotel is quite dated, with some areas poorly maintained. The hotel is adjacent to two deserted and derelict old hotels inhabited by squatters, making it unsafe to wander around at night. One can observe burn marks and boarded-up windows on these decrepit structures. The complimentary internet service is extremely slow. The walls are very thin, which means you can hear your neighbors. The resort fee is disproportionately high considering the modest additional amenities provided by the hotel, such as the small swimming pool. It appears that many of the tourists we encountered in Hilo's popular spots had traveled from other parts of the island. I was unaware that people generally do not stay in Hilo. Now I understand why. The premier hotel in Hilo is just about a three-star establishment.
