Nestled in the quiet hills just outside Dahlonega, the Schoolhouse Cottage is a lovingly restored 19th-century schoolhouse where history and hospitality come together in perfect harmony. With original floors, ceilings, and windows still intact, this one-of-a-kind retreat invites guests to step back in time — without sacrificing modern comfort. Filled with curated antiques, cozy touches, and thoughtful details (including dog-friendly stays with no added fee), it’s the kind of place that feels like home the moment you arrive. Whether you're sipping a cold Coke on the porch, snuggling into one of the famously comfy beds, or cooking in the fully stocked kitchen, every inch of the cottage is designed to help you relax and reconnect. Perfect for couples, solo travelers, small families, or four-legged friends, the Schoolhouse is a soulful escape you’ll want to return to again and again.

Pet Policy:
The Schoolhouse loves welcoming well-behaved dogs. Guests who care for the property with their canine companion in the following manner are guaranteed the return of their damage deposit:
-Dogs should be clean and up to date on flea and tick prevention.
-Remove any waste from the yard.
-Cover furniture with your own blankets or the ones provided in the canine cupboard before allowing pups up.
-Wipe dirty paws with towels found under the kitchen sink.
-Vacuum and/or lint roll pet hair prior to check-out.
-Please do not bring your dog if he or she is not fully house trained, has incontinence issues, or destructive separation anxiety.

The best VRBO we’ve ever stayed in!! House was spotless! Looks exactly like the listing. Anything we needed was there! Callie thinks of everything from multiple wine and champs glasses to bathroom products that you might have forgotten. I spent at least 2 hrs everyday on the master balcony porch swing. The bed was so comfy and the linens we the best. We saw deer, fireflies and owls! The most perfect relaxing spot! Callie was very responsive to the few questions we had. Can’t wait for our next stay there.

Having family history in the Dahlonega area, the Schoolhouse Cottage was the perfect choice for us. Callie's attention to detail and her respect of history are such a part of the cottage from the beautiful decor to the books documenting the history of education as well as life in the mountains. I found pictures of my father as a young teacher in her book on schoolhouses and pictures of my grandfather as a long-time educator. We enjoyed our stay thoroughly and the Schoolhouse is our top choice when we return to Dahlonega.

Callie was a wonderful host, and the property was gorgeous and neat as a pin. The porches are so relaxing, and the location was secluded yet convenient. We traveled for our son’s graduation from UNG, and our stay made it an even more fabulous trip. We’d give 10 stars if we could.

the schoolhouse from 1848 is WONDERFUL. beautifully loved and redone. the owner has put so much thought into her place, so many special touches. anything extra you might need, it’s here. hubby and I started joking that if it wasn’t provided we must not need it (really rare). we hope to return to dahlonega and we sure want to stay here.

This was a girls trip, just two of us. My friend always wanted to stay here, finally got the opportunity to… and it was great! The only negative comment that we can give is, if you stay in the front bedroom, be prepared for a 6 AM wake up with the garbage truck (Friday morning for us)….not good! Such a sweet retreat, thank you!

This was our annual mother/daughter trip. The personal touches throughout the school house were perfect. One of the cleanest places I have ever stayed. We enjoyed the boardgames in the closet, sitting out by the fire pit, and just enjoying nature all around the house. Definitely would love to return here one day

The schoolhouse was in a lovely location and extremely clean. Being around 10 minutes from town was a bonus! It is very pet friendly, with unique touches that made our pup feel right at home! Every aspect of the home feels inviting and comfortable.

Enjoyed the schoolhouse and all of its amenities. Callie is very detail oriented, which we enjoyed!! The house was very clean considering you can have your dogs. So many dog friendly homes are filthy. You can tell Callie takes pride in this home and loves it!!! So close to wineries and downtown area. We will definitely be back!!!

We could not have loved our stay more at this little, adorable, magical converted school house. The home was absolutely lovely and immaculate. We loved the darling swing on the screened-in porch and the entire home was appointed lovely. We loved it so much, we already can't wait to go back. A definite 10/10!!! This place is easily one of the best vacation homes I've ever stayed in. It is absolutely adorable and you can tell the minute you walk in that the owners love it. The kitchen is so well stocked. It was spotless. Communication was great. It's private and has a serene peaceful feeling. We spent a lot of time on the back porch watching the hummingbirds and deer. It's close to several vineyards, Cleveland, and downtown Dahlonega. I can't imagine staying anywhere else when I need a getaway weekend.

The renovated schoolhouse was perfect! Very private and beautiful surroundings. Cleanest place I’ve ever stayed in. The owner thought of so many special things to make our stay enjoyable. First off I’d like to say, with this being a renovated old-school house it is truly immaculate; it has everything you need and more. If you don’t stay here and feel like you’re in a classroom with a huge library of reading material all around you then this place is not for you. There is reading material for all ages. There are areas all around the place to cuddle up with one of the many blankets they provide and a good book. I think the best part of my stay was the large back porch off the living room. I would sit there every evening and just listen to the peaceful sounds and the occasional ruffle of the leaves and wonder what furry friend is out there joining me. I saw the occasional deer stroll by and a possum foraging through the leaves looking for a treat. My daughter and her old pup joined me for the first few nights and then the rest of the week I was in total solitude. If you ever want a place to just get away for “me time“ this is the place to stay. Though, this is also a place for family time. There’s a wonderful well lit outdoor area with a fire pit and seating. There is also ample area for playing outdoor games. I can’t forget to mention the wonderful town of Dahlonega and all it has to offer. There are loads of wineries all around to visit and the beautiful Mountain views are breathtaking. This is definitely a place I will return when visiting Dahlonega. Thank you for having us. Linda L.

Lovely place to stay. The home so clean and comfy! The host thought of everything to make your stay perfect. The house was well stocked with the things you sometimes forget so you could continue to enjoy your time without multiple trips to the store. If you want to relax and enjoy nature, this place is perfect! We plan to visit again!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the schoolhouse. The property was clean and charmingly remodeled. The cabin was well stocked/furnished and secluded enough to feel disconnected on vacation, but about 15 min easy drives from downtown Dahlonega and surrounding vinyards/restaurants. Would stay again for another getaway weekend or trip with another couple.
