Overall, we had a good experience at The Island Resort and I would stay here again. It’s a really cool and unique property with a lot of potential, and the location is excellent. You’re right on the beach, which is definitely the biggest perk. Our room was very clean and comfortable, and we enjoyed the pools and beach access. The drinks from the bars were good, and the pizza was surprisingly good as well. There were, however, several things that kept this from being a 4- or 5-star experience. Check-in was very slow, and throughout our stay the staff generally wasn’t as helpful or attentive as I would have expected. The pools also had a significant amount of ants around them, which resulted in them getting all over our towels and bags. We stayed during the off-season, so several of the advertised amenities were not open, including some of the food trucks. I understand that some amenities may have limited hours during the off-season, but it would have been helpful to have clearer information about what would and wouldn’t be available during our stay. We also had an issue with the food. We ordered a burger one evening and it tasted spoiled, so we had to send it back. The pizza, on the other hand, was good. Overall, I think this is a fun property in a fantastic location. It has a lot going for it, especially the beachfront setting, clean rooms, pools, and unique atmosphere. My wife and I had a great experience staying at the Sundrift last week. It was our first time visiting the Destin / Fort Walton area of Florida, so we didn’t fully know what to expect, but the location of this hotel was perfect- right on the beach. It was a quieter beach than other hotels / resorts in the area, so we enjoyed the peace and quiet at this particular location. There also was a really good pizza place in between the hotel and beach, so that was convenient for a quick lunch on the beach or sitting by the hotel pool. Other than the location of the hotel, I’d say the other standout aspect of the Sundrift was the staff. Everyone we interacted with there was friendly and helpful. One of the staff members in particular (Anekia) was extremely helpful in accommodating us the first day we arrived, and in the following days of our stay as well. There’s also a very good Italian restaurant and bar on location at the hotel. The bar had a great happy hour, which we enjoyed on a couple of occasions, and the bartender (CJ) was friendly and attentive. As far as our room, it was very clean when we arrived, and the house keeping made sure our room was fully cleaned on a daily basis. It was also very quiet through the night. The only reason I’m giving the room 4 stars instead of 5 is that there was a bit of wear and tear, although certainly not significant.
