The Space:
Nestled within the picturesque village of Cartmel, at the heart of the Lake District, lies the charming Wharton Cottage. This delightful three-bedroom stone cottage offers a cosy retreat for those seeking a serene getaway amidst the breathtaking natural beauty of the region. The Cottage promises an idyllic retreat for all seasons. Dating back to 1850, Wharton Cottage exudes timeless elegance, having been meticulously renovated to a luxurious standard by its devoted owners. The cottage seamlessly blends historic charm with contemporary sophistication, providing a stylish and inviting ambiance throughout.

Stepping inside, you'll find three bedrooms that host two double beds and a regal king-size bed, it comfortably accommodates family and friends for a tranquil stay. Along with a shared family bathroom, adorned with BathHouse products. Downstairs, a convenient family bathroom awaits, boasting a sink, toilet, bath with shower mixer tap, and a towel radiator, while upstairs, another bathroom offers added comfort with a toilet, sink, shower, and towel radiator.

The recent renovations have transformed the kitchen at Wharton Cottage into a bright and sociable space, meticulously designed to combine luxury with practicality. Featuring stylish cabinetry, sleek surfaces, and underfloor heating, the kitchen is as functional as it is beautiful. Guests can enjoy state-of-the-art appliances, including a Quooker boiling water tap, integrated dishwasher, SMEG toaster and a Sage Bambino coffee machine, with USB outlets and elegant lighting completing the thoughtful design. This stunning new kitchen serves as a welcoming hub, perfect for creating shared memories with family and friends.

Additionally, the ceiling beam in the lounge area has been meticulously restored, bringing it back to its former glory and adding a touch of historic charm to the space.

Parking is hassle-free with several free spaces available nearby, or the option of a public car park at Cartmel Racecourse, just a brief stroll from the property.

Please note that no parking pass is provided at any time for Wharton Cottage, including during Cartmel Race Days. As non-residents, we do not hold a permit for on-street parking. While we may receive a racecourse-issued pass for village access, this does not entitle guests to park in marked bays or restricted areas.

During race events, parking in Cartmel becomes limited and subject to additional restrictions. Guests will need to make their own parking arrangements. We recommend checking the Cartmel Races official website for up-to-date details on temporary parking zones, village access procedures, and traffic management. You may be asked to present proof of your accommodation booking, such as a confirmation email or in-app reservation, at access points during busy periods.

Outside of race days and special events, on-street parking is available where space permits. Please always follow local signage and park considerately to ensure safe access for residents and emergency services.

The Neighborhood:
Cartmel is often held to be the quaintest of all Lakeland villages with its cobbled pavements, medieval arch, heritage buildings, delightful stream-side walks and 12th-century Priory; a captivating destination that entices visitors with its charm and natural beauty.

Immerse yourself in the atmosphere and indulge in the array of charming shops, four traditional pubs and Simon Rogan's renowned Michelin starred restaurants: a treat for food enthusiasts. There’s a wine snug, microbrewery and cheese shop all gathered around a lovely courtyard space often featuring live music and pizzas on summer weekends. And with the famous national hunt racecourse just steps away, you can soak up the excitement of nine race days a year and enjoy fun-filled days out.

There are many other attractions nearby: Levens Hall, Sizergh Castle and Holker Hall -each with a spectacular garden. There’s the Campbell Bluebird exhibition, the Lakeland Motor Museum and of course Lake Windermere (with breath-taking views and activities for outdoor enthusiasts); all are within 15 minutes’ drive.

Getting Around:
The nearest bus stop is the Clogger Beck stop, a short walk through the village and the services you should view for the needed timetables are the 530, 531, and 532 bus routes.

Local taxis operate in the area, we always recommend making a pre-booking. The nearest train stations are Grange Over Sands and Cark; from either, Wharton House Mews is approximately a 10 minutes’ drive.

Stunning cottage in the heart of Cartmel!

Thanks so much for a lovely stay! The cottage was home away from home. We loved the welcome hamper. Such a lovely Idea. Only thing to comment is that the house should perhaps offer free parking with a permit be given for two car's, our a voucher to park for free at the race course. Gorgeous property

Everything at the property is so tastefully thought out and decorated. It’s a beautiful property in an ideal location, particularly for the races! Living room was so comfortable with extra blankets for cosy nights in. Hamper was a lovely touch, along with coffee machine & pods. No dishwasher - which is the only thing that could make the stay a little easier. The washing machine & dryer with detergent was great for our family. Amenities in bathrooms were very much appreciated. Bedding was high quality and pillows were really comfortable. Wi-Fi was great, TVs in bedrooms .., although the 3rd bedroom would benefit from a TV also (my daughter who had that room had to stay downstairs later to watch something) Overall a really impressive cottage stay that’s been designed and completed to a really high standard!
