Whether you’re interested in exploring the local forests and rivers or sitting down to barbeque from Hubba Hubba’s Smokehouse, Flat Rock, North Carolina can accommodate both. This quaint and historic village is a short three miles south of Hendersonville and just under 30 miles from the bustling activity of Asheville. This quiet mountain town is a must-see with its breathtaking views, countless parks, and hiking trails. Flat Rock was established back in the early 1800s when it was called the “Little Charleston of the Mountains.” Then, visitors flocked to the area to escape the North Carolina heat. Today, tourists come to explore the mountains, float the rivers, hike the trails, shop the eclectic stores, and sample the local fare. You can expect to find southern folk art, locally grown produce, antiques, and good old mountain town hospitality. Find your little piece of heaven and explore Flat Rock for yourself!

Over-all our stay was good, not great, but good. When we arrived, we could not get into the rental because the code given to us for entry would not work. Luckily, Our host was easy to reach and walked us through resetting the code so we could get inside. Once inside, the unit was clean but felt stuffy, warm, and there was a distinct smell (my husband described it as smelling like the Inside of my mother’s nursing home). The two wall air conditioner units did not lower the temp inside the condo despite running all week; they really acted more as fans than a/c. Thank God the temperature outside was mild and the evenings cool, we opened the windows for fresh air and to cool down the inside of the condo. As guests, we were given a welcome gift of popcorn and coffee, thank you PMI! However, that was it… there were no directions or instructions left out for us about anything! Nothing to consult with about the WiFi password, how to use the Roku television, how to work the ac/fan units, where to put garbage, pool towels different from shower towels, etc. Honestly, it was only by chance that as I was looking over the entire unit before we checked out making sure I had not left anything, that I found, tucked away in a small drawer in the bedroom, all of the printed information and instructions we had been hoping to find when we checked in. This would have been great if it was left out in the open not tucked inside of a small bedroom drawer.

Weekend Getaway

Adorable one bedroom unit- had everything we needed for a long weekend stay. Everything was spotless. Very comfortable accommodations. The only reason I gave a 4 star on check in was because I was given multiple codes for the door- ignore texts and use their DACK system it will be much easier for you to follow. Location is also great.. love the view and quiet from the covered deck for rest and relation, felt like we were away from the ‘hustle and bustle’, but were actually very close to anything we wanted to do, shop for and fabulous restaurants.

Ok property but a bit overpriced

The pics make the space look much bigger than actual. The building is run down and old. The space was clean but not updated as far as counter tops and furniture. Our favorite part was the outside porch and water view. They love pets but no receptacles for disposal except large trash bin at back of property. We felt the property was overpriced for condition. As well after we paid we started receiving all kinds of emails about how we would be charged for noise, for non cleaning and other things. We were in high alert to make sure no extra charges as the least fee was 200$. The property was conveniently located and not really that bad just felt for the condition of the property and age it was overpriced. The property is better suited for a couple and that’s all.

This condo has a relaxing view of the lake. Enjoyed the sound of the water fountain. Comfortable furniture and bed including the linens. Everything we needed was found in the kitchen. Most of all was the responsive of our host, Corey.

Overall, the property was what I was looking for. It is not fancy, and can be a little noisy with neighbors close, but the location was good and the apartment has all you need for a short stay. It was a good value for what you get.

Wedding weekend stay

This property was perfect for one couple. It would have been a little crowded with 4 but it had a sofa bed if you wanted 4 people. We liked having the porch with a nice view. Laundromat and hand wash dishes. It was basic but clean and perfect for our needs. I would rent it again.

Great place!

Beautiful setting! Wonderful amenities! We were there for some meetings, so weren't able to take advantage of the fun activities that are available, both at the Retreat and also in the area...swimming, canoeing, hiking, biking, etc. We will have to return to the Mill House Retreat when we can play instead.

Cute apartment on lake with great views.

I loved getting up each morning and sitting on the porch overlooking the lake and views of the tall trees. Perfect for my morning coffee and meditation. Small kitchen had everything was very functional. Property manager was a pleasure to deal with. Looking forward to coming back.

Cozy, comfortable space

This little space met our needs for our long weekend visiting friends in Asheville. Everything was in working order, and the property management was communicative and helpful. The property is close to the Carl Sandburg home which has lovely woods trails to walk or run.
