Our family rented this property on Sunday December 14,2025 for emergency trip to see my mother who had been placed in Hospice. Upon arrival into Bristol we went directly to the “House on The Hill” as we had driven 5 1/2 hours with a two year old, 8 month and 7 month old baby. There were five adults. We unloaded our luggage and let the babies sprawl out for a period of time and then loaded up to my parents home to see my mother. On our return we put the code into the gate around 9:04 pm. By this time, the temperature was 4 degrees with the wind chill. The gate would not open. There was no internet access on the road. It’s a narrow drop off one way road. We could not back up or move forward. The only number we could access was VRBO which we called at 9:16pm. The person on the other end of the phone could not speak clear English and while pleasant could not comprehend what was happening and had a broken connection. I tried to walk around to the other side of the gate with my phone flash light to see if there was a sensor to open the gate and even walked to a neighboring home and knocked on the door with no answer. With VRBO not providing any response, the temperatures, the lack of internet to access any other number, the inability to back up and no way to walk that far to the house with the babies in the cold we decided to open the gate with our bare hands. The whole ordeal was very frantic for the children and it was pitch black and freezing. We were disconnected with VRBO. T
