Had a wonderful time staying at the cozy shoehouse as we took a couple days to reunite with family after moving out of state. Spent 23 years in York visiting the shoe from time to time. It was very nostalgic inside and outside of the shoe. Unlike practically all shoes, this one did not stink.
My 3 sister in laws and myself have talked about spending some time together. Now that we are all retired it finally was going to happen and what better place than in a shoe. I have looked at the Shoe House for years from Route 30 on my way to visit my sister in law in Lancaster. I had actually stopped and got ice cream with my future daughter in law on our way back from a family wedding. She actually was the one that called and told me that it was on VRBO for rent. It had everything we needed- Sleeping for 6, kitchen, big family room and even a hot tub and fire pit area. The house is magical. There are beautiful stained glass windows, renovated interiors and itâs cozy without feeling crowded. It exceeded our expectations and we had a wonderful time. I especially enjoyed all the history and old photographed displayed everywhere. Itâs wonderful for a family with kids and even for 4 old ladies in a shoe. Thank you to the hosts for a one in a million opportunity to enjoy a truly one of a kind property.
My wife has been dying to sleep in the shoe for 30 years. She nearly died when she discovered her birthday surprise of a weekend in the shoe house. We had so much fun doing shoe themed activities and eating foot/shoe themed things. I think it's so much fun to be able to say we slept in a shoe. We had an absolute blast!
We live locally and rented for one night for my husbands birthday! The interior was decorated really cute! Unfortunately it was misting outside so we didnât get to enjoy the fire pit, but still got to enjoy the hot tub! Great hosts, easy to check in, very accommodating! Definitely would recommend! Very unique experience!
We had a fabulous weekend celebrating our 40th anniversary at the Shoe House. The house is beautifully decorated with every detail thought of by the hosts. We spent our weekend cooking together, playing games, sitting out by the fire pit and enjoying the hot tub. Sleeping accommodations are comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked. The downstairs family room is where we gathered the most and having a full refrigerator, bar, and coffee station was a huge plus. We had a fabulous memorable time. The host's communication was exceptional and instructions for check in and check out were timely and clear. Don't hesitate to book a stay here!
Loved living history for 2 nights in the Shoe House! We were a group of 5 friends for a high school reunion. The property is well maintained and enjoyed all the historical mid century touches. The current owners did a great job honoring the original decor and intent of the property. In the basement, there was a mini museum and gift shop about the history of the house. We got a kick out of a few tourists stopping to take pictures. The place has it's own official historical landmark sign out front. There are only 3 bedrooms but we were able to spread out and use the basement couch as a bed and 2 of us shared the larger bedroom. Since it's a shoe, there are some tight corners and odd shaped closets but that was all part of the charm. I wouldn't advise preparing any large meals as the kitchen is tiny. We ended up at the First Post pub around the corner which was excellent. Also took a side trip to the York Central Market for some fun cheese and casual eats.
We had a great time at the shoe house for a girls weekend! We loved going into the hot tub in the snow. The coffee was stocked and we loved the home decor. Communication was great. Thanks for a wonderful time!
The shoe house itself was a ton of fun. But we were delighted by the 60s vibe that put a huge smile on our face as we walked back in time. We stayed 2 days and we really didnât get to explore all of the little things and details that the house offered. The driveway gate was a little glitchy, but nothing to slow us down or detract. We ended up using the manual gate on the âinâ side more than the automated gate.
Staying at the Haines Shoe House was a surprise bit of fun for us. We didn't know about it, but only found out about it a few weeks ago. The accuracy of the restoration, the details in the interior, the special decor, all worked together to create a wonderful experience for us. The interior was super clean, the beds were super comfy, and all the personal touches to make it feel like a home (in the 50s and the 2020s) were there. The hosts made check in and check out really easy. Hopefully we can come back again soon.
The Haines Shoe House is am incredible experience for all ages. Our family group age range was 5-70. We all enjoyed our stay. Lots of things to do in the area. House was meticulously maintained and furnished. Campfire under the stars and hot tub great addition to our stay.
The Shoe House was the perfect stay for our anniversary. This is a historical gem you donât want to miss! So much history and nostalgia exists within the property, it is on amazing grounds, and the hot tub is piping hot! Perfect for relaxing on a crisp fall night! Plus, how cool is it that you get to say you stayed in a shoe!!! The owners/host were super responsive, no issues with access, and the shoe had all of the amenities we needed and more! Super comfy bed. Thanks for recognizing first responders and veterans too! Highly, highly recommend!
