Gold was discovered at Walhalla in circa 1862 and was part of the general Victorian Gold rush of the mid 19th century. Once a bustling town of 4000 residents, its now down to 20 permanent residents. Activities are fly fishing, walking, camping, touring of a still active Gold mine. Walhalla is experiencing something of a renaissance with a number of new or renovated accommodation houses and is certainly worth a visit.

We had a great stay at Walhalla. The cottage is in a fantastic position and suprisingly warm. It’s great that we could share it with our pooch too. Quaint historic cottage in the heart of Walhalla. Good cooking facilities although you'll need to bring all your own condiments. Bed was firm and bizarrely set up with an electric blanket (in January!). Internet worked on day 1.
