  • Sunset Knoll is a classic coastal home ideal for families and dog lovers seeking spectacular ocean views, privacy, and a relaxed place to unwind. Perched high on a bluff in the quiet Baker Ranch community, the home overlooks Baker Beach and offers a peaceful, scenic setting that’s hard to beat.

    This is an older, well-loved home that prioritizes comfort, space, and location over modern finishes. The expansive grassy backyard is perfect for picnics, barbecues, and enjoying the coastal air, with a short path leading to a meditation bench overlooking the ocean. Guests can walk downhill about a quarter mile along Baker Beach Road to Scenic Drive, then continue roughly one mile to reach the trail down to Baker Beach.

    The main living areas are located upstairs and include a cozy living room with a wood-burning stove and beautiful ocean views, a small but fully equipped kitchen, a dining nook, and the primary bedroom with a queen bed and an attached bathroom with a tub/shower.

    Downstairs are two additional bedrooms—one with a queen bed and one with two twin beds—along with a small bathroom featuring a stall shower. The home is comfortably furnished and well suited for a casual, family-friendly stay.

    Outdoor amenities include a deck with a gas barbecue and seating, plus a large outdoor dog kennel for guests traveling with pets. Additional conveniences include a dishwasher, washer and dryer, flat-screen TV with cable, DVD/VCR, stereo, and free Wi-Fi.

    While Baker Beach is nearby, guests are also just a short drive from other local favorites including Trinidad Head, Trinidad State Beach, Luffenholtz Beach, and Moonstone Beach, making it easy to explore the best of Trinidad’s rugged coastline.

    Sunset Knoll offers a peaceful coastal retreat where sunsets, ocean views, and simple comfort take center stage. It’s a wonderful choice for guests who value location and serenity in a dog-friendly setting.

    ** Guest reserving home must be 25 years or older, be staying at the property the entire time and will be considered the responsible party for this booking.

    ** Upon completion of booking reservation guests will be required to sign a rental agreement agreeing to Trinidad Retreats rules and regulations.

    ** This home IS pet friendly for a maximum of 2 dogs with pet fees. Dog must not be left unattended inside or outside of the home. It is perched on a very steep bluff. Please maintain a close watch on children and pets.

Spectacular Views!

The highlight of the property is the stunning view of the ocean. The location is great (near town, groceries, restaurants, beach, etc). And a great launching point for hiking. I would suggest considering replacing the carpets for hard floors, since pets are allowed, there's a scent on the carpet. Otherwise, the property is phenomenal.

What a great stay! Exactly as described and even better. I'm almost afraid to say how much we loved the property in fear that it will always be rented. (Haha). Great bed nice towels and plenty of storage space. I wish we could have stayed longer. My dogs were in Heven to be able to go with us. Can't wait till next year. Thank you.

Spectacular view

The location was amazing, and everything was better than we expected. Our group even said it was nicer than the photos. Easy access to the national park, incredible view (when it's clear & sunny), private/secluded location, great for dogs to run around in the yard, very effective heating. Yes, the house looks like something out of the 70s or 80s and the furniture is dated, but overall the house is in good shape and well-equipped (we were able to cook breakfast & grill dinner for 5 without issue). My only complaint is: the amount of time I had to spend before check-in to sign contracts, get the charges right, read a myriad of emails, confirm the code, etc was *a lot* for ~40 hours in the house.

Great location but the house is so-so

I give the property location and views a 10 out of 10. Unfortunately, the house itself is far from great. It seems that the house, bathrooms, kitchen, and furnishings haven't been updated in a very long time. The windows were dirty and detracted from the lovely views. I would be okay with the house if it was at a lower price point but at these prices I would hope for a little more care to be put into the place.

Great Vacation Getaway

Beautiful views of Trinidad Bay & Coastline, none better . Enjoyed by comfortable, clean , safe, house with a large back yard. Older home at very reasonable rental charge, well-equipped with everything you need , & everything works The host property manager Hope M. was excellent, friendly, helpful , & very responsive . The location was private,secluded, & close to the beach that you can hear the lovely surf. Everything was close by as well . Of note Murphys Market has everything including fishing license should you want to brave ocean fishing as you’re quickly catch your limit guided by the Best fisherman of Calif, ask for Mark ! We really appreciated that it was one few pet friendly houses Thank You and we will request to return to Sunset Knoll at Sunrise again

Peaceful Million Dollar View

We were blown away when we pulled onto the secluded property covered with trees and walked around to the backyard to see nothing but the sea and Trinidad village. The home was older but had character and it was very clean. The sunsets were spectacular which we enjoyed from the deck. Every single window (there are many) had a view. The mornings were just as beautiful as the sun rose. We cooked most days and did find the restaurants limited, but that’s not what we came for. Our favorite was Seascape on the pier. The grocery store had everything we needed and was five minutes from home. I fell while hiking and broke my ankle and the property manager, Hope was very kind about my worry of the place being sufficiently clean per their instructions as my poor husband had to do it all and I couldn’t check his work - Ha! Hope offered me help if I needed anything. All in all a beautiful retreat despite the outcome. We will be back!

Views! Space! Plan Ahead for Coffee Shops

I did not think the online photos did the property justice. The space was roomier than I expected. There are views from every single window. The easy chair was comfortable, but noisy getting in and out of. Moonstone Grill is a must for dining! The town of Trinidad is quaint, adorable, and has many local artists! It's definitely a VRBO to bring my family back to in the future. Down side: It was not just in Trinidad, but almost every coffee shop we went to in northern California closed by 4:00 to 5:00. If I was late getting coffee for my afternoon crash, I was SOL. =D

Fabulous view, but obstructed.

The main draw of this property is the view. It is admittedly gorgeous, very wide and mostly unobstructed, at least not by trees or houses. However, if you sit on the deck, there is a thick wood railing exactly at eye level, obstructing the view. You must stand up or bend down to see an unobstructed view. This was disappointing, because the photos in the listing do not show or admit to this. The railing is probably required by code, but the owner could resolve it by providing bar height table and chairs. The view is better from the back yard, but there is no lawn furniture there, except a straight backed uncomfortable wooden bench. The interior of the house is okay, but very outdated, (around 1970's I think) with carpet throughout, some of it with stains. The shower downstairs is horrible. It sprays out at a defined angle and cannot be adjusted. If you are an average height woman it sprays directly in your face and the stall is so tiny there is no place to get under it without that happening. For the price paid, you would think the owners could make just a few small adjustments for visitors' comfort. Add barstools and lawn furniture, get rid of the carpet or at least clean it, put in a new shower head. Also, the part of the listing that says there is a beach a 1/4 mile walk away is somewhat misleading. We asked how to get there and were told it is unmarked and is a steep slope down, and that other beaches in the area were recommended as being better. We appreciate the honesty at that time, but the listing should not imply there is a nice beach and easy walk away. The property managers were very nice and responsive to questions, and we do appreciate that honesty when asked.

Redwood National Park Visit

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We immensely enjoyed our stay at Sunset Knoll! It was very clean and well stocked with kitchen needs, linens, and towels. I read reviews with complaints about mold/mildew. We did not have any mold or mildew. We only used the bedroom upstairs, and the bed was comfortable. The managers were quick to respond, professional, and very friendly. The view was SPECTACULAR! The pictures do not give it justice. The yard is secluded. A scenic narrow paved road that turns into a dirt road runs along the coast from Trinidad to the drive for the neighborhood. We could not see the other houses from Sunset Knoll. I had read there was a steep path to the beach from the house. The path was overgrown and obviously unused for a very long time. Trinidad had great restaurants that were reasonably priced. Restaurants and groceries were a short drive from the house. This was a perfect home base. We hiked at the National Park daily. Places closer to the park were run down and other nice places were further away than Trinidad. Please note, the house is not updated with furniture and decor; it is clean and comfortable. My 1 complaint is the recliner beside the picture window in the living space is quite uncomfortable. I looked forward to sitting there to read or take in the view. I couldn't sit in the chair because it was so old it made my back hurt. I am a fairly young healthy person without back problems! I gave a 4 out of 5 because the chair needs replaced and the furniture updated. Our visit was June 28, 2022 - July 1, 2022.

Amazing Views!

This property had the most amazing views! We spent most of our time at a larger home next door but utilized this home for sleeping. It was comfortable and clean and could easily have the best views on the street!

The house is beautiful and has everything you need for a lovely vacation. I stayed with my husband and three year old, my parents and brother. Plenty of space for everyone. And the location and view can’t be beat.

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The view from this rental is so gorgeous! The beds were comfortable, kitchen stocked well, managers good to respond. Only downside was the internet was a little spotty - but we were usually out and about anyway. Enjoyed Camel Rock Beach, Agate Beach, Fern Canyon, Redwood National Park, Lighthouse Grill for mashed potato cones, but mostly THIS VIEW! Loved it fog or sunshine!

Wonderful Getaway

We loved our time in Trinidad. The location is amazing! Easy to get to and close to the bay. The views from the deck were breathtaking. Thank you for a perfect getaway!
