« Okuhida Hot Spring Hirayukan is conveniently located, just a short and easy walk from the Hirayu Onsen bus terminal. A small shop beside the ryokan sells snacks and drinks, which is useful especially in the quieter evenings.
Check in was smooth and the ryokan already had our Expedia reservations. As with most Japanese ryokan, copies of our passports were taken. We stayed in the Japanese Style Room, Sengakuso, Non Smoking (35 sqm). Footwear must be removed at the main lobby and changed to the in...

« The entire Roykan was very clean and comfortable. The staff was personable and we had the best time getting to know them and their families. They all were extremely kind and we were most thankful for their friendship. »

« Worst hotel night ever. The only reason why people should book this hotel is because they have one of the most beautiful onsen in Japan, just on the side of the river.
That night, the Typhoon Jebi had just passed over the hotel and when we arrived, there was not power or water anymore.
I can’t blame them for that but we had to spend the night in total dark, without bathroom, with nothing to eat and of course no access to the onsen.
What I can blame them for is that there was no...

« We stayed here as a family of 5 (2 adults and 3 kids - 10, 6 and 4) in the traditional Japanese room. We didn't get in till 6ish and left early so we could get to Kamikochi but I wish we had of added another night or at least got there at check in time to make the most of the facilities.
Unfortunately we didn't have time to use the onsen.
The traditional room is set up for tea when you arrive and then the staff comes back later to make the beds for you. The kids loved the experience. We were...

« We stayed at this ryokan for 3 nights and we loved it there! It is family driven and has such a lovely and local feeling. Our room was big, authentic and had a really nice onsen. We received the best breakfast every morning, it was the best we ever had. We also had dinner there 1 night, and it was such an experience. Everything tasted amazing and we loved that the ingredients was local and in season. We also got help for activities. »
