At around 300 metres from the shore, and 70 metres above sea level, the upper terrace provides uninterrupted views of the ocean and the huge number and variety of whales and dolphins so close to the coast line.
During our 3 week stay we recorded over 100 whale and dolphin sightings, accounting for more than 700 animals and at least 6 species.
Highlights included 15 sightings of breaching sperm whales, leaping clear of the water as well as lots of fluking as the animals sounded. Watching a group of 4 Risso's dolphins harass, hit and chase off a False Killer whale was as spectacular as it was unforgettable. Sightings could last for hours and we found that the best time was between 1600 and 1900 hours when the sea seemed simply full of life and animals when Risso's could be guaranteed.
Quite simply the best place we have ever been for land based observation - watching wild animals without disturbing them - fantastic.
We used 8x40 hand held and 20x80's binoculars mounted on a tripod.
Lovely people, friendly, quiet island and Natalia and Noelia are wonderful and will make your stay a real delight.
If you love to watch marine megafauna, this is a great place. You will also see huge hovering buzzards and daytime bats too. Magical place, highly recommended.
