The treehouse was pretty cool. It's in a quiet neighborhood a block or so from the ocean. At night the place turns into a jungle experience with all the sounds you might expect (frogs, birds, etc). The grounds is beautiful and the place is very unique. It reminded me of our Northwoods cabin but with all the luxuries of a modern home (ac, Internet, huge shower, nice kitchen). The only things I didn't like were the gate, which they ask you to close and lock. It was just kind of a pain. The water situation was a little weird with needing to get drinking water (they told us not to drink the tap water). That's probably more of a big Island thing though or common to that area. The other thing was the cats. Two of the cats didn't get along with each other so I didn't like them getting to close to me or the kids. By themselves they were fine but they did tend to hang by the door and make noise. To be fair I'm not a huge cat person and the host was upfront about it. Overall it didn't detract too much from our experience, although I think it prevented us from utilizing to porch more. Also, the place only has one exit as the front patio door is labeled non functional. That is something I found to be a little inconvenient. All things considered it's a cool place. The host was very responsive and helpful with ideas, etc. Location is great if you are considering something near Hilo or Volcano National Park.
