'Stayed at Cabin Kai 4 (Dec 26–30, 2025). Affordable and located in a beautiful, peaceful area with free parking, water, and Wi-Fi (weak).
Major concern: No window coverings for the floor-to-ceiling bathtub window or windows above the bed and coffee bar, resulting in serious privacy issues while bathing and sleeping. This was very uncomfortable.
Remote location (45 minutes from Hilo); a car is required. No cellphone reception. No nearby restaurants or shops. Towels were not very clean, and...

'Windows broke out, raining and cold no heat. Dust and spider webs on the tables. Messaged owner due to the conditions not to mention the junk yard around it. Woke up eith a sore throat and had to pay for a diffrent place the rest of the trip'

'If you are looking for a cheaper place to sleep and you are by yourself I think it’s ok! I stayed with my boyfriend and thought there was zero privacy. Walls were paper thin right next to some other rooms that had dogs barking. The bed made a very loud noise every time we moved to side. For hot water we had to keep the water very low and when my bf took a shower the water got cold. but again if you want to stay close to the volcano and want something cheap there are not too many options there...

'This is a guest house beside the owner's place. The room was clean and spacious and the weather at the end of March was so comfortable that we didn't have to switch on the AC at night. However, it did get very hot in the day so we opened the windows to let the hot air out. Also, a few very cute and friendly cats also live on the property. Loved the place!'
