Ryokans in Higashi-Kishu

'The onsen was just okay. I anticipated much better. The room was fine. What really bothered us was that they said that reservations made on Expedia do not support making a reservation for dinner. And, such reservations must be made at least 24 hours in advance. Thus, they would not serve us dinner. The ryokan (a hotel) is way up a hill. They have a shuttle bus but they will only provide a trip to and from the Kumano-Shi station before and after check in. So, we had to take a taxi to go to...

'Dit is een werkelijk prachtige oude Ryokhan, een absolute aanrader als je met de auto reist. Heel erg mooi gebouw en erg goed eten. De eigenaar was erg aardig. Goed te combineren met een wandeling in Odaigahara.'

'Whole hotel looks like it was good 20 years ago and someone just forgot to do anything with it since. We booked a non smoking room but when we entered the room the smoke was so heavy I could taste it and there were burn marks all over the carpet. We asked to be moved and got a new room which smellt like a mixture of smoke and peppermint airfreshener to hide it. At least in this room it was still manageable. Stains in the carpet but bedlinnen and bathroom were clean. Personell was friendly...

'山上館に宿泊しました。部屋は和洋混合のタイプでビックリするほど広く素敵でした。チェックインしてから部屋に行くまでがエスカレーターだったのですがこれも売りの一つですかね？どこまでも続く作りにはビックリして圧倒されました。 スタッフの人達は関わった人ほとんどが外国の方でしたが日本語も上手でしかもとても丁寧でした。 洞窟の露天風呂は言うまでもなく最高です。ただ今回は改装中で入れないお風呂もあったので損した気分で残念でした。 食事はバイキングと聞いて行ったのですが、仕切りがあって落ち着いて家族だけの空間を準備してくれてたのと、焼き物、お造り等も食べられるタイプで、しかもバイキングのメニューもどれも美味しいし、他では食べた事ない物も多数ありました。 トータルで考えると大満足です。'
