Thank you for showing interest in Kohala Lodge. This Beautiful 2400 square ft craftsman-style Paniolo (cowboy) retreat is your's for you and your guest only. The retreat sets on 3.5 acres located at the Northwest coast of the Big Island above Historic town of Hawi. When staying at the Kohala Lodge you can visit our Gift-shop Old Hawai'i Trading company... The Lodge House is fully furnished. Work and Play at Kohala Lodge the large Lani offers a great setting. The Lodge House has two baths and sleeps 4 comfortably. The second floor loft with a Queen size bed overlooks the great room with large fireplace and 30 foot ceilings. Make a cozy fire for those cool evenings ( fire wood provided )

The spacious Master bedroom is located on the main floor with private bathroom. The Lodge House is a unique timber-framed paniolo-style ranch home made of high quality large yellow cedar wood. Come enjoy paradise in this relaxing, beautiful home with spectacular ocean and sunset views from just about every room.

Relax on the expansive font deck overlooking the ocean / see the Whales spouting when they are migrating through Hawaii. Finish your day barbecuing on the grill and enjoy your food in our fully furnished kitchen.

Kohala Lodge is not just a place to stay, it is a destination. If you visit the Big Island, it is one of the bucket-list experiences you must have. Scenic, tranquil, magical all come to mind. Sit on the expansive front porch and contemplate that you are on an island in the Pacific with a view of Maui in the distance. Feed the animals with pellets provided by the owner. When the breeze gets quite cool, you can build a fire in the stone fireplace with wood provided by the owner. I did not cook, so I cannot comment on that experience. Instead, the charming little town of Havi is easy to access with excellent fare at the Kohala market. For the adventurous, there is sky-diving nearby, or just feed your soul relaxing at the lodge.

Already dreaming of a return trip to this magical place. The care and attention to detail that Chris put into creating and maintaining the house and property was truly remarkable. We felt welcomed and right at home. House was immaculately clean, yet full of character and cool things to discover. Our kids loved running around the soft grass and playing on the swing, and our whole family looked forward to seeing the animals awaken as the sun came over the property each morning.

It is a magical property located close to downtown Hāwī. The wonderfully crafted house with a spacious front lanai overlooks the delightful, friendly farm animals, grazing the rolling green pastures, and the Pacific. At twilight, you can often see Maui 30 miles away. The glorious sunsets photograph well!

We absolutely love their beautiful lodge. It is a magical place in a beautiful setting with incredible views. We will be back again and highly recommend staying here. The family was very f friendly and accommodating. We loved sitting on the deck taking in the spectacular views. The lodge was masterly built by the owners. Chris, Carol and Justin were the perfect hosts. The property and home is stunning and every attention to detail was met. The home was clean with a gorgeous view, floor to ceiling fireplace, cable tv, internet, washer, dryer and cooler, beach chairs and towels to use. Chris provided firewood on cool evenings, charcoal for the grill, tips on beaches, hikes, restaurants, history of the area and the farm animals are such fun to visit and feed. Close to many nice beaches, hikes and about 2 hours from Volcano National Park. We saw lots of whales, sea turtles and there are plenty of places to snorkel nearby. There is an affordable FoodLand grocery store 30 minutes away and smaller shops right in Hawi for anything you might need. If you are looking for some time on the Big Island away from the resorts to experience the true spirit of Hawaii this is a great choice with great hosts that give you privacy but always available if you have any needs. You won't be disappointed!

I am a repeat guest from 20 years ago and found it to be just as charming and bucolic as I remembered.This is the "other Hawaii" where peacefulness and quiet prevail. The animals in the pastures are the backdrop along with amazing views of Maui. Chris couldn't have been a better host, and a joy to talk to.His love of this area is obvious and contagious.Get away from the resorts and get out to the country.This is the best way to do it.

This is truly a once in a lifetime place. It was so much better than pictures could ever convey. We stayed two nights and it was some of the best sleep we've had... Not only was the king bed comfortable, it was so peaceful with the grass swaying, the trees rustling, the wind breathing... We sat for hours on the lanai just gazing at Maui that was right in front of us.Every single attention to detail made it special. The lamp fixtures, the doors, the fireplace, the stove, the furniture, the instruments... It felt like stepping back in time. My partner is a carpenter so he also appreciated the timber framing, there are no nails! Only wooden pegs. That hammock had an orchid growing on the tree. The coffee beans were delicious, the fire was always provided with keawe logs every night. Fantastic host, friendly animals, we are definitely going to have to come back.

One of the best porches I’ve ever enjoyed! Expansive ocean views plus storm clouds that roll thru and Maui in the distance. Friendly farm animals to feed. Super clean and antiques everywhere. Plenty of space for exploring. Just a 10 minute drive to Hawi town. Chris was great to work with. We would stay again!

Staying here is a dream fulfilled!

We don’t have enough great things to stay about this property and our hosts. Chris was fantastic! We enjoyed getting to know the animals, which ranged from Billy goats to horses to sheep to cows to the Pony! The views were fantastic and the grounds were meticulously maintained. So many neat spots to relax on this property, The home was well appointed and well stocked. The bed was very comfortable, as was the rest of the house. We cannot wait to return and stay here again! Thank you for sharing your piece of heaven with us!

Romantic and Relaxing

My husband and I stayed here as the last stop on our honeymoon. The lodge was incredible! Chris thought of every detail to make a charming and unique spot in the world! I wish we had stayed longer! The views looking toward Hana across the water were gorgeous, and I will never forget sitting on the porch watching the sunsets, rainbows, and horses. The house had everything we hoped for and more. We'll definitely be back!

Quiet, peaceful, everything I had hoped and more

We had a wonderful time staying here. My kids and I do enjoy an amazing sunrise with coffee and was able to grill out under the stars with an amazing sunset. The owners were phenomenal and not only had great communication but also were excellent hosts and gave us great ideas for things to do while on the big island. I would 100% come back here, and the town that is nearby Waia. Is perfect for breakfast or even dinner and shopping. Very small town with boutique shops but just a great small town relaxation vibe to it.
