The Palette Pad is a boutique, pet-friendly farm stay at Scurlock Farms, thoughtfully created for couples, creatives, and guests seeking a quiet, restorative escape in the Texas Hill Country near Georgetown. Family-owned and owner-hosted, we specialize in meaningful stays — not mass tourism — and take great pride in welcoming guests who value privacy, beauty, and connection to place.
An Artist’s Cottage with History

Originally built as the art studio and temporary home of artist Pauline Thweatt, The Palette Pad carries a rich creative legacy. Pauline and her husband, Bill Thweatt, hand-gathered and laid every stone inside and out while building their family home just across the ravine.

Beneath the north-facing wall of windows, hundreds of paintings were created under Pauline’s artist name, C. P. Montague, one of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s favorite artists. Today, that same light and quiet continue to inspire rest, creativity, and reflection.
Comfortable, Fully Equipped, and Easy to Settle Into

This one-bedroom cottage is fully furnished and designed for comfort. The kitchen is well stocked with cookware, serving dishes, basic spices, coffee, and an assortment of hot teas. We provide soaps, shampoo, a hair dryer, paper goods, and thoughtful essentials so you can arrive, unpack, and relax.

Guests especially enjoy the wood-burning fireplace and outdoor fire pit. A generous supply of firewood is included, with additional wood available for purchase.
Traveling with an Infant or Toddler

Families visiting with young children are welcome. A step stool, booster dining seat, stroller, and Pack-N-Play are available upon request.

The Palette Pad offers free high-speed wireless internet, an HD Smart TV, a CD player with a curated selection of music, along with games, puzzles, and books for quiet evenings.
Pet-Friendly by Design

Well-behaved, non-aggressive dogs are welcome at this pet-friendly Hill Country cottage. Furniture covers and towels are provided for paws after outdoor adventures or a swim in the river. Due to severe allergies, we are unable to accommodate cats.
Outdoor Living at Scurlock Farms

Guests love dining beneath heritage live oaks, grilling outdoors, watching sunsets from the bluff, reading in the hammock, or enjoying a glass of wine by the fire pit. Charcoal and grilling supplies should be brought by guests.
On-Site Hosts, Thoughtfully Available

Dan and I, along with our family, live on the farm and are nearby should you need assistance, recommendations, or local insight. We respect your privacy while remaining easily accessible throughout your stay.

Pets are welcomed, the cabin was cozy outside sitting area was nice with my morning coffee, delicious homemade muffins from my hostess. By end of the week I got to watch the foliage colors turn on several trees.

Perfect Anniversary Getaway

We booked this property specifically because of the river access. So glad that we did! We spent most of the day Saturday on the river, and had it completely to ourselves! Our amazing hosts encouraged us to drive our car close to the river access, so we only had a short walk to a very large flat rock next to the river. Put our chairs in a shallow spot and just chilled. A peaceful, quiet, relaxing day in nature sitting in the cool flowing water. The Palette Pad had everything we needed. The tour of the farm was interesting and fun. Ate at 3 different restaurants in town, and had amazing food each time! We will definitely be back!

Beautiful property. Incredible history! Great exploring opportunities. Loved the farm and the friendly animals (Bud the baby goat was so cute!) Very grounding. Secluded, yet close enough to explore Georgetown and the beautiful sites. Highly recommend. there as well.

A place to sleep

It was a cute house, and a good place to sleep, but i wanted the extras that were talked about in the posting like the homemade muffins and getting walked around the farm. We didnt see anyone else there and there werent any animals besides a few cows we saw as we were leaving.

The property is so peaceful and beautiful. We enjoyed sitting outside listening to the birds and enjoying the great breeze. Such a laid back relaxing stay. We did chill in the river as well. Great getaway

This place was perfect for my work on a writing project. Great muffins at check in, a river to wander along, a wood burning stove for heat, everything was what I needed. The host was attentive and responsive. Highly recommend for a rustic, beautiful getaway.

Palette Pad Stay

My wife and I and our Yorkie really enjoyed our 3 nights at the Palette Pad on Scurlock Farms. Sheron provided a thorough and informative drive-around tour of their entire property including the pecan orchard and San Gabriel River frontage. We visited and fed the goats and got up close to the 2 baby goats just born 1 day before our arrival. My wife got inside the fence with 8 Black Angus cows and fed them some treats. Just a little shake of the bucket had them coming up to her for more. The farm is located a short 10-25 minute drive from downtown Georgetown, which we visited each night to enjoy some great food and drinks and even took in a well-done, very funny performance of Leading Ladies at the Palace Theatre. The whole experience was somewhat magical and a bit too short. We plan to visit again with our family of 9 and stay in the Palette Pad and the Rocky Overlook house next door…just as soon as a booking is possible. Thanks so much, Sheron, gif your hospitality. The perfect mother/daughter stay

We loved seeing/feeding/petting the animals and exploring the property with the owner Sheron and by ourselves. The pecan orchard, wooded areas, and river front and bluffs were beautiful. The history of the family and property is so unique!

We had a short stay at the Palette Pad since we were there for just the weekend, however, the house was very cute and cozy. The landscaping was beautiful, especially looking out the full length windows out the back! We will be back!

Awesome location at the farm

We just loved it! Sheron is really sweet and welcoming, responsive, easy to talk to, has great stories to tell... she's simply a great host! The palette pad is the perfect size for a couple (with pets like us). The location is amazing, surrounded by friendly farm animals, but far enough for your dogs to not interact with them if not used to, like ours. And you are 45 mins from Austin and 15 mins from Georgetown. The very best for us was the tour of the farm with Sheron, you can feed the cows, the goats, the horses, and you learn about birds, trees (pecan farm), the river nearby (San Gabriel), and the history of the family and the 2 pads... It's so quiet at night, our dogs didn't bark once and slept like a log after our multiple walks to the river nearby. We rested, enjoyed the peaceful day with a view from inside the pad or from under the shade of the beautiful oak trees, and the evenings by the firepit or by the fireplace. And Sheron spoiled us with homemade banana pecans muffins! We adored this location and we will be back during the 3 other seasons for sure! We cannot wait...

Perfect spot to relax and unwind.

We loved our recent stay at Scurlock Farms, and definitely plan return. Sheron was the perfect host; both gracious and attentive she gave us a farm tour, and the green light to explore the fields and river that runs through the farm on our own. We loved walking the path through the pecan orchard to dip our feet in the cool river waters. Our pup loved getting to meet the horses, goats and cows, and running in the pasture right across from the front door of the Palette. The farm is only a 10-12 minute drive to the Georgetown square, so when we weren't exploring the farm, we took the quick trip into town to the lovely town square. All in all a great weekend!
