Chestnut Cottage - a charming traditional stone cottage with 2 bedrooms on Arniston Estate

  • Located on the stunning Lime Avenue drive to Arniston House Chestnut Cottage is one of 4 charming stone cottages which housed the foresters for the estate in days gone by. Set in a sunny tranquil courtyard the cottages overlook fields to the north. The cottages also have an area of peaceful garden for visitors' use. A timeless place to relax in the country yet only 30 minutes from the center of Edinburgh with all its attractions. Arniston is an ideal base for families with pets.

    Chestnut Cottage has one double or twin bedroom on the ground floor level. Upstairs is a king bedroom next to the family bathroom. The kitchen is fully equipped including an electric oven and hob, microwave, washing machine and dishwasher. The cosy sitting room has an open fire with logs and kindling provided free of charge by the estate woodlands. A Freeview TV, DVD player and Wi-Fi are provided to entertain you during a relaxing break.

    Ground floor: Entrance hall, sitting/dining room with open fire. Well equipped kitchen. 1 double or twin bedroom.
    First floor: 1 double bedroom. Bathroom with shower over the bath, WC and wash hand basin.

Another lovely stay

Have stayed here many times. Peaceful location but easy to get to Edinburgh from nearby train stations. Great for walkers. Well equipped . Beautiful linen on very comfy beds. Supermarkets short drive away.

Return visit to Chestnut

Lovely return visit to the wonderful Arniston Estate. Chestnut cottage is a lovely cozy and comfortable cottage in wonderful surroundings. Felt like a home. Good location for days out not that you ever need to leave the grounds! We will be back!

Family short break

Beautiful surroundings, everything you could have needed and very handy for Edinburgh. Only a wee suggestion for a mirror as only small one in vanity area and few more sockets there. Always plenty of hot water, though found we couldn’t adjust heating. Very peaceful and would recommend to others

Wonderful Spot!

We very much enjoyed our stay at Chestnut Cottage. It was a wonderful spot to see some of the local treasures like Cairnpapple, Rosslyn Chapel and Edinburgh.

Great cottage wonderful host

Chestnut cottage is a lovely cosy cottage with everything you need. The location on the Arniston Estate means you wake up to peace and quiet and wonderful view from the living room. Staying there was wonderful and despite its rural location is also really convenient for supplies and access to Edinburgh. I could quite easily have never left. Henrietta is a wonderful host and the cottage is a credit to the estate. I will definitely be back!

Our perfect stay at the Arniston Estate

Everything was so wonderful and perfect. It was everything that we had dreamed our stay in Scotland would be. Henrietta was so kind and helpful, she even recommended a lovely place to eat and shop! The grounds of the estate were beautiful and amazing to explore. We will definitely be returning to the estate in the future

Cute warm and cosy with a working fireplace! Lovely walks in the area and driving distance to historical sites. The place was quite clean for a pet friendly stay but there were was a few pee stains from previous doggos.

A very cozy stay

We spent a few very nice days here exploring Scotland. The proximity to Edinburgh is fantastic, but a trip to the Highlands is also easily possible. The cottage is small but nice and the fireplace in particular offers a lot of coziness. The kitchen is very well equipped and the location is very quiet overall. Thank you for the great time!

A home from home

Chestnut cottage feels like a home from home, it is a comfortable cottage, with everything needed for an enjoyable stay. The location is spectacular, near enough to Edinburgh to enjoy the city, but in stunning countryside with plenty of walks including the beautiful grounds of Arniston Estate, as well as easy access to the Southern Uplands, walks along the Tweed or mountain biking at Glentress and Innerleithen. The owners are super helpful, and the dogs and pigs adorable, our dog quickly made friends with all of them!

Ok though lacking charm

The description and photos of the cottage made it appear quite charming but it was actually very ordinary. Our stay was ok, it had what we needed. We made use of a park and ride and rode the bus into Edinburgh which was convenient.

Cozy, comfortable cottage in a peaceful country setting

What a lovely stay at Chestnut Cottage! We had more space than we needed and communication with our host, Henrietta, was quick and informative! We would love to visit again for another stay where we scheduled time to enjoy the beautiful grounds and a tour of the Arniston House. Highly recommend Chestnut Cottage (or any of the cottages at Arniston House)! Great host, great accommodations, beautiful country setting while close to mass transit and highways. Absolute perfect spot!
