One of the northernmost towns along the coast in North Carolina, Duck is an idyllic town on the shores of the Currituck Sound. This shot was taken from the town's boardwalk while looking West over the sounds. It is advisable to visit the location in Winter as that is off season - so you can spend more time taking in the beauty of the North Carolina coastline and also sunsets are usually much more picturesque around the time owing to the cooler temperatures and lower amount of atmospheric haze.

Plenty of things around Duck to see. Further north, there is the Currituck Lighthouse where you can climb the steps to the top of the lighthouse. North of Corolla, there is an area where you can drive along the coast on the sand - 4X4s a must. Here you can spot some Spanish Mustangs, horses out in the wild. If you're lucky, you can spot them running along the beach in the surf. I'd recommend taking a tour through the Corolla Wild Horse Fund - the money from the tours is used to help the wild horses in every which way possible and the staff are knowledgeable and friendly.

« Four of us (two adults and two grown kids) stayed for five nights over the holiday weekend. The location of this property right on the Duck/Southern Shores boundary was just great. Sunset views of the bay were great and the ocean was a short walk or drive away. The property was very clean. We are used to renting homes that are a little more lived in, so the lack of games and puzzles (and basic cooking necessities like salt and pepper) threw us a bit. « We absolutely loved our stay at ocean hideaway. The location was amazing, ease of access to the beach with the golf cart was perfect. « The property was quiet and felt private though in a neighborhood. The house was very clean and the kitchen well appointed for cooking. Our little dog came with us and was welcomed to stay. All was in good order as was described in the VRBO listing. Our only suggestion might be that the mattress was a little too firm--a memory foam mattress pad would be great! « This was a spectacular visit to the OBX! The house was clean and beautiful all around. The coffee/tea bar was exquisite and the hot tub was lovely after a long day of fun/physical recreation. « Wonderful home, very walkable to beach, restaurants and shopping. The beds were comfortable, nicely remodeled baths, and the furniture was nicer than normally found in rental homes. We used the bikes to ride to restaurants, beach, and shopping nearby and thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub and outdoor shower.
