'Unfortunately our room smelled bad when arrived. Smelled like toilet didn't work. Later in the night we smelled cigarette smoke and woke up to our room smelling like stale cigarettes. Did tell front desk staff and they mentioned talking to manager when they arrived. It is too bad that it was a nice hotel but the smells were horrible'

'Staff stopped in each day to see if we needed anything, Room was large, bed was comfortable, liked the 2 sinks, wifi was good but not secure, breakfast was fair to good where eggs and sausage weren't very warm.The room was very damp-maybe somewhat weather-related-hard to get comfortable.'

'The staff was welcoming the rooms and building were well maintained. This was our first time traveling with our chihuahua and the trip went awesome.'

'The location of this hotel is unbeatable. If you stay in Canal Park area you don't need your car. Shops, restaurants, lakewalk, etc is walkable. We will come back for sure.'

'The location was great with a view of the harbor and the lift bridge from the room. It was a short walk across the lift bridge to Canal Park and good food, museums, and shopping. We went to the Great Lakes Aquarium, the William A Irvin ore ship museum and walked along Lake Superior. The buffet breakfast was great and everything was clean. This was a wonderful place to stay.'

'We enjoyed a quick getaway at the GG Barnum Mansion. The property was beautiful and quiet, and our room was quite comfortable. The neighborhood was lovely, and we enjoyed a muffin and coffee on our way out. We would have enjoyed using the sauna if we had had a bit more time. '

'The mansion itself is beautiful and well maintained. I think they did about as well as possible, but it's not possible to update an early 1900s house to all the modern amenities. The internet was spotty and the layout awkward. One thing that really needed work was the bed. It advertises "premium bed" and it was definitely not premium. Whenever we got onto the bed or moved on one side, it sounded like the bed was going to break. This could easily be fixed, so hopefully they do that soon. We did...

'The room was charming and welcoming and beautifully appointed. The location was fabulous with the ability to go for long walks along the lakefront a few steps away. I didn’t receive check-in instructions and had to call for those when I arrived but the staff were super helpful and even got my room ready early as the weather was dreadful and I had my dog with me. It was a lovely place to stay!'
