We stayed at the Captains cottage during the heatwave in June. The directions via Great Rea Road were spot on - the garage is visible as you reach the bottom of Great Rea Road (at the junction with Elkins Hill) and was easily accessed via the electronic doors operated by a code. The cottage keys were located in the key safe in the garage itself (a second set is located at the front of the house in North View Road). We unloaded our luggage via the garage and yes, the steps down from the garage were steep and certainly not suitable for young children or the infirm but we (late 60's pensioners) just took our time - make sure you have one hand free to use the handrail as you descend. We entered the cottage via the middle floor patio which leads into the kitchen. The middle floor patio was quite a suntrap in the afternoon and did get ridiculously hot but there was a nice dining set with an umbrella. The ground floor patio also had a small bistro set although it gets no sun. The cottage itself was clean, modern, comfortable and very well furnished. The kitchen was well provisioned and the little welcome basket was a nice touch. The lounge/sitting room and the top bedroom both have panoramic views over the inner harbour, Torbay and beyond (the binoculars were well used). The top bedroom (master) did get very hot but this was due to temperatures in the 30's, the like of which we have never seen before in Brixham. The beds were very comfortable and fairly new with good pillows and quilts. The master bedroom has a nice ensuite bathroom and the 2 ground floor bedrooms share a large family bathroom and a separate wc. The laundry and adjacent games room were located in a separate building, half way up the stairs towards the garage. We used the car daily, travelling to various places in South Devon - Teignmouth, Dawlish, Exmouth via the ferry at Starcross, Dartmouth and Blackpool sands (via the car ferry) and the wonderful beach at Broadsands which is our particular favourite. It was great knowing you had a parking space to return to each day. Brixham itself was in easy reach via steps or road - again just take your time ascending/descending the steps. We did vote this the nicest cottage we had stayed in and we have been regular visitors to Brixham over the years (hubby has been coming since he was a child and he is 70 this summer).
