'The hotel is old, it gives the feeling you've travelled back in time. We booked the hotel to experience classic room with futon beds. The view from the room was very nice. Breakfast / dinner buffet was fine. The room came with kimono / yukata and quite a lot of people were wearing them in the restaurant too. We had a non-smoking room. The room smelled a bit, but this is just from wooden materials in the room in combination with the hot weather. It certainly did not smell like someone had...

'Our stay at Guesthouse Koundo was excellent. It’s a beautiful home located, in our opinion, in the best spot in Nikko as it is easy to walk to the popular areas as well as catch the bus to go up to the mountain. There are also wonderful neighborhood restaurants to try within walking distance. It’s in a quiet neighborhood surrounded by beautiful nature. 'Verzorgd en mooi klassiek hotel. De kamer was erg schoon en ruim. Het personeel was vriendelijk en behulpzaam en het ontbijt was fijn. Wij hebben bijzonde genoten van de onsen die al bij de prijs in zat!'

'De onsen was ok maar enigszins gedateerd evenals de kamer. Toilet bijv spoelde maar matig door, douche is niet op de kamer.'

'I really love this hotel! The staff were kind and lovely, even though I’m not very good at communication. I stayed in Room 406, which had a window and a door leading out to the balcony — I absolutely loved it! There’s a Family Mart right across from the hotel, and it’s not far to walk from the train station. It was also very convenient to walk to the large supermarket in town. If I ever come back to Nikko, I will definitely stay here again.'
