Centraal Okinawa: Strandvakanties

We came across this hotel by chance and well we're surprised in a very good way! The location itself is not that great (not near any beach or lively town that is), but the resort is very beautiful. Cottages built around the garden, full of trees, flowers and butterflies. This is great tranquil place to come at rest when you had a trip of several weeks to Japan mainland (like we did). Like always in Japan, the staff is very helpful and will assist you quickly as best he can. Their English is not that great, but we encountered worse so nothing to complain there. Special mention about the restaurant of the resort. This is really, really good! We had breakfast buffet, which is a combination of European and Japanese food. All good. Lunch was a set menu with some choices, no buffet but all specially prepared when you order it. Also really good. And finally the diner (we had it twice during a 5 day stay), really some of the best we ate during our trip! On the downside I would say that you need your own car to come here and the plan your own day trips. Furthermore the cottages (at least ours) were a bit aged and outdated. Very clean and spacious though, so not a problem for us. Just don't expect 4 star modern western hotel standards. I would definitely come here again and also recommend it.

The rooms are huge and the view amazing. The beach is not that nice as the one of the hotel nearby. In July the place was full of families with toddlers. What ruined the experience for us was the plethora of rules and restrictions eg around use of the pool, which made it very hard to relax. Also, you needed to present a voucher for almost anything like comfortable beds at the pool. The extra costs for the pool beds and other services in the hotel were ridiculously high. But most of all there are real safety concerns. The hotel is occupied mostly by Chinese guests. Staff rarely speak any English with the exception of a few. One night the alarm went off and there were loud PA announcements in the room in various Asian languages but not one word in English. We had to evacuate as the emergency exits were blaring to do so. This created panic as we had no idea what was happening. Having experienced a fire before in my life, I know that seconds can matter. Not having any sense of what was happening was deeply upsetting and a real safety concer for future guests. The hotel apologized when we raised the issue afterwards but seemed unaware or unconvinced about the need to communicate in English about such things.
