Garage apt at the end of a long, old garage. Not above a garage! There were good things (garage parking, super quiet, free Netflix, French press), but many negatives. No light in the sauna so had to sit in the dark which was dangerous. Missing smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector. Floors were freezing. Despite the 4 different heating elements (all on) the apt was cold and drafty. No gas for the grill until our last day, so we had to freeze the expensive steaks we brought. Fire pit area was completely covered in snow and ice so couldn't use. Some dishes were chipped/stained. Dishwasher was full of USED dirty dishes when we arrived. Wondered what else wasn't clean. Charged 125 cleaning fee, yet we had to do a cleaning list before check out. Sheets way too small for the bed. Tiny view of the Lake. Overall, the Bear Den wasn't terrible. We enjoyed spending time together, as always. But much of the communication between us and the hosts seemed like AI responses. There were apologies but they felt empty. Lots of “the team will be notified”, with no results.Because we were not able to use some amenities, and others were missing, we don't feel this was a good value. If we were offered more than a generic apology, like compensation or even a solution for the flaws, we might have rated differently. This was our 1st VRBO-not great. If you have things listed in your rental, they should be available and working to the guests who pay for them. We feel that we were bamboozled!
