We couldnât have chosen a better place for our Big Bend getaway. The cabin is about 1/2 hour from the Starlight Theatre, Terlingua Ghost Town, and the nearest gas pump, and roughly 45 min from the park entrance, easy drives since you get to enjoy the scenary. If you run low on ice, beer, or snacks, the Little Burro Country Store is practically around the corner. We saw other spots that seemed tight and too close with other rentals, this one feels pleasantly isolated. Itâs just off the highway, but traffic is so light, especially after dark..that the night sky turns into a private planetarium.
We spent evenings on both the front and back porches, grilling up dinners and shooting cans with the BB rifle. The AC kept the inside chill, the shower got hot fast. We still stuck to quick rinses to save water. Perfect for 2 people. Remote enough for silence and stars, close enough for convenience. Exactly what we were hoping for.
The bed was probably the most comfortable I'd slept in on my trip. Didn't like not having hot water in the wash basin. Hard to shave in a shower. A little bit futher from Big Bend than I thought.
It was a bit of a disappointment to learn that the water was not drinkable when we sadly realized that 2 days into our stay! Also, I think it may be helpful to list that there no stove or that there are no pots to cook on the grill. We did enjoy our stay, and we did not leave a tip for Sandy who came by to clean when we were leaving. How can we do that for her???
We enjoyed our stay at the cabin. 25 minutes to Study Butte and Teralingua. About 90 minutes to trailheads in Big Bend National Park. Great sunrises and sunsets. The property was clean and our host was quick to reply to our questions.
We rented this property to be close to Big Bend NP. It wasnât that close and it wasnât near other services as well. I should have known better. I think the property was accurately described; I was just too optimistic that it would be more convenient than it was.
A very cozy cabin in quite a remote area It met our needs for our visit to Big Bend park. Just the right distance to park Traffic going by property very noisy but pretty much settled down at night
Pretty much as described in listing. Very cute rustic cabin. Well decorated for area. A bit further out than I realized but very easy to get to Big Bend and Terlingua. Hot water heater was not plugged in and no instructions left for this but owners available if needed.
The cabin had everything I needed and kept me warm during my stay. I typically camp when Iâm in Big Bend, but Greasewood was a welcome sanctuary from a night of sleet and wind Pam was extremely communicative and helpful. And the shower was nice and hot!
I thought this was a renovated building but it looks like all new construction to me. Must be good on the insulation cuz it never got cold. Even when it was 33 outside. Small inside heater does just fine. Not hard at all to find. Little burro store is a mile down the rrroad and it could be found on GPS Garmin
We had a really great time staying at this property. Although there are some quirks, it is fully explained on the listing and in the communications. We used to be RVers so we understand having to adjust to different situations. The only thing I would note is that if you have the room heater on, plus the water heater and then try to use the microwave, you might trip the breaker. The cabin is decorated really nice and the outside porches and firepit are great. It always takes a while to get used to a different bed, especially a bouncy one, but we did! We loved our stay and would do it again.
Wow, that was a great experience. We really enjoyed staying in this unique cabin. We highly recommend this West Texas cabin and the adventure it brings with it. Loved it and hope to get back soon.
The Greasewood Grocery was exactly as described. Based on previous reviews, I brought a small folding table and a coffee pot. The night sky is amazing. It is a drive from Terlingua/Study Butte but the scenery makes the drive nice.
We enjoyed our Greasewood Grocery Cabin stay. We arrived just a dusk and Pam preemptively reached out to make sure we would find the place. No need, the instructions worked fine. Apparently there was some extensive updates to the structure. We found it cozy even in below freezing temperatures. It was located about 20 minutes to the park boundary, and that worked for us. Understanding it was a small space, we planned ahead and nrought in only what we needed for two nights. That fit well into the available storage space. It was good to learn about the non-potable water, so we could plan for that as well. We enjoyed the back porch swing the first night, but cold weather kept us inside the second night. We would definitely stay there again and hang out some more on the patio when itâs a bit warmer outside.
Fantastic Getaway for Big Bend, Day of the Dead and the Chili Competition
This was the most amazing little place to stay outside of town. My husband and I were looking for a quiet getaway. Were were able to jump in our car and drive into town but come back to absolute silence and the most amazing night sky I have ever seen in my life. I will have amazing memories of my husband cooking me breakfast cowboy style while the sun rises. Pam is a great host as well! AMAZING if you are into photography!
