A historic wine region characterized by small, ancient villages; many structures (bridges, churches, and monasteries) date back to the Middle Ages. The region is also often referred to as Cathar Country; castle ruins and the remnants of châteaux serve as reminders of the era of the Crusades in the 12th and 13th centuries. <br><br>The wines are distinctive, and visits to the estates and châteaux are a true experience. The panorama is reminiscent of Monet’s “Impressions of Southern France.” The scent of lavender, cedar, and cypress hangs in the air. Here, you can live a secluded life while still being not too far from the towns and beaches. <br><br>You’ll rent a distinctive, recently renovated country villa in a hamlet not far from Lagrasse in the Aude department. Saint Martin des Puits is situated in a side valley along the Orbieu, a small river, away from mass tourism. Absolute tranquility is guaranteed. If your own pool isn’t enough, you can go swimming in the region’s rivers. For us, it’s a magical place.<br><br>The house is very spacious, with about 110 m² of living area, and features four bedrooms (three on the first floor, one downstairs), a living room with a sofa set, a fireplace, and satellite TV, a kitchen and bathroom (with shower and bathtub), and several terraces, some partially overgrown with trees. A large terrace right outside the kitchen invites you to enjoy breakfast under a mulberry tree, while a rooftop terrace is perfect for undisturbed sunbathing. Even when it rains, you can enjoy an evening cocktail on another covered terrace overlooking the garden and the illuminated pool. The large pool with its spacious outdoor area rounds out the property. <br><br>The garden, lush with vegetation and bordered by mature trees (red cedars, pines, and cypresses), gives the property a special, southern French flair—the ideal setting for a peaceful and relaxing vacation. <br><br>You can park your car safely on the secure, gated property.
