This entire experience was nothing short of amazing. At first I was apprehensive to live completely off the grid but after staying here I would definitely do it again. When we first arrived the host met us, gave us an entire tour of his property, including his beautiful animals as well as explaining what itâs like to live off grid. Made us feel right at home as if we had been friends a long time. The home was cozy, it does get a little cold so be prepared. The grill and fire pit was a nice touch in the evening. We only stayed one night and wish we had stayed longer.
Magnificent accommodation with everything you need. Sleeping in an old bus, and on top of that, on a lava field, was an amazing experience. The host was very responsive and the cleanliness was impeccable.
We could not believe how well thought out was every piece of this small home. There was everything you needed and every detail was thought about! We really enjoyed the stay in this oasis, it was truly so relaxing!
Expectations were met. The property was wonderful, exactly as stated on the site. Owners are responsive and the place was immaculate. We were extremely pleased to find fresh coffee beans and a grinder along with fresh eggs from their chickens. We stayed only one night but I would recommend two nights to fully enjoy your stay.
We had a wonderful stay at Lavaland in the Lava bus. The bus was comfortable, clean, warm, and had everything we needed for our two-night stay. We loved the star-filled skies, outdoor shower, delicious honey and eggs, and the lava landscape. The owners are welcoming and kind, and they gave us a tour of the unique property. We hope to return soon!
My girlfriend and I wanted to adventure the southern part of the island and needed a private and peaceful place to stay. The Lava Bus had everything a regular house does plus a very comfortable bed and amazing scenery. We wanted to use the fire pit and our super friendly host brought down some wood for us right away! Looking forward to our next stay at the magical Lava Bus! Mahalo Kitty!
We were making a multi-day road trip around the Big Island and needed a place to stay after a couple of days in Volcanoes NP. We chose the Lava Bus because it was such a unique property. We were so happy we did!
It is a bit of a drive to get to any services (around 20 minutes to gas/groceries) but it was an amazing location for seeing the stars at night and enjoying peace and quiet. It felt very remote, but at the same time the bus itself was so well-appointed that it felt somehow luxurious. The outdoor restroom was very clean and comfortable, the outdoor shower has plenty of hot water, and the interior of the bus is beautiful with lots of nice touches. We cooked our dinner in the kitchenette and played some chess and generally had a very peaceful, special experience.
Thank you Kristen for hosting!
