Upper Castlewright Cottage - spectacular views, historic gateway to Wales

  • Upper Castlewright dateert uit de 16e eeuw en misschien eerder, en is perfect voor een rustig uitje in de heuvels van Shropshire en Montgomeryshire. Een voormalige herberg herberg, het huisje ademt karakter. Het is gelegen op 350 m op de enkelsporige Kerry Ridgeway, een oude weg voor drovers die door Wales naar Shropshire stroomt.

    Het huisje, geschikt voor maximaal 5 gasten, heeft een spectaculair uitzicht over de heuvels. Het is een ideale uitvalsbasis voor tochten naar de Welsh Marches, de kastelen, bergen en kustlijn van Midden- en Noord-Wales, en de historische steden Ludlow, Shrewsbury en Bishops Castle. Het ligt op slechts 500 meter van een prachtig deel van het nationale voetpad van Offa's Dyke en is ook een ideale uitvalsbasis voor wandelaars.

Lovely warm and comfortable cottage

The cottage had everything we needed and was in a lovely location. We had some great walking from the door and lots of interesting places to visit The food at the Castle Hotel was excellent and staff very friendly,

Excellent stay in comfortable, well-appointed cottage, far from the madding crowd. Plenty of places to visit not too far away. An excellent retreat for recharging mental batteries.

What a lovely and peaceful cottage.We loved our time there catching up with family.The views were stunning and two nice gardens to sit in. We didnt use the summerhouse as we had such good weather, but it would be very useful to sit and look at the hills from on a cooler evening.The place was beautifully fitted out and comfortable seating and beds.Plenty of space to spread out in and a useful utility room for a dog or to chuck wet gear and bags into.We visited Montgommery, what a lovely place. Totally unexpected and walked on Stipperstones on the next day, very beautiful. The Bog Visitor Centre is highly recommended for tea and cakes and advice on where to walk.Just take care on those narrow but very peaceful country lanes as there is the occassional busy farmer or local bombing along.We highly recommend the cottage, we had a fantastic short break.

Wow,Stunning Cottage

We stayed for a week and were extremely satisfied with the cottage. Communication with the owner was great. It was more than we expected. The views are superb. Overall this is a brilliant cottage and would definitely stay again.

We chose the cottage for easy access to dramatic walks, and a wonderful fire to come home to at night. It was cosy and spacious, and we loved waking to the sound of sheep and baby lambs in the morning. Had good outings to the nearby town of Bishop’s Castle and NT Powis Castle a bit further afield. The underfloor heating in the boot/utility room was genius, and what an ideal was to enter with mucky dogs! Just wish we’d had more time & more sunshine. :)

Beautiful cottage with fantastic views

We really enjoyed our stay at Upper Castlewright Cottage. It was nice and peaceful with just the cows and sheep in the fields opposite for company. The cottage is lovely and cosy and had everything we needed. We felt very much at home there and we would loved to have stayed longer than a week.
