We've only used VRBO in the states before, so I was a little hesitant at first to use it in Mexico, however I'm glad we did. First off, the property owner lives in the states and is very involved with bookings and your stay even after you arrive. Secondly, she has a local that oversees her property in Mexico that is fluent in English and is there to help make sure all your questions are answered and your needs are met.
This was our 2nd trip to Cabo, and this time we took our 4 kids and my sister and her bf. Having the house that comfortably sleeps 8 with 2.5 bathrooms was so much nicer than like 3 different hotel rooms. The icing on the cake, of course, was having our own private pool overlooking the ocean! There is a grocery store close by in San Jose, called La Comer and you can get amazing pricing on meat, seafood, and everything you could imagine. But we love going into Cabo and eating local places most of the time. Our favorite is Maria Corona's for Mexican, and then Mariscos Tres Isles for Seafood. I'm not really worried about safety as much, as I've been overseas a lot including the Middle East, but it was very comforting for my wife knowing that the community this VRBO is in has a gated community, with a guard shack occupied 24hrs, and also digital video cameras on all the streets.
Unfortunately, this trip we were hit with what was left of Hurricane Bob for 3 days, but the property owner and manager completely handled the situation amazing for us all. We were really caught off guard not knowing what to do or how to respond, but they stepped in and helped us through it, so we could at least enjoy a little of the vacation. Make sure to do the Dolphin Encounter Excursion with Cabo Adventures in Cabo San Lucas, it's SO amazing and worth every penny and then some. We didn't have any luck deep sea fishing this go around, but we're pretty sure that was due to the storm.
Luckily, we experienced Cabo before for ourselves, so we spared our kids from venturing into the city in the late evening hours. The streets get really wild, and you will have everyone under the sun asking you if you want drugs, or if you want to go into strip clubs. We really love going to the San Jose, they have little more culture there. On Thursday nights behind the church they shut the street down for local artists to showcase their work. All in all we'll definitely be back to Cabo, and Casa Juanita will see the Mensinger family again.
