8/10 Bien

This Greco-Ottoman apartment in Balat worked well for our group of eight. The architectural details are beautiful, and the neighborhood — slightly removed from the tourist core — felt authentic and walkable. That said, several things affected our experience. The host refused to allow us to check-in until 11pm, citing a full-day power outage. We waited at the airport for hours after a long flight from Seattle. While the outage itself was outside the host's control, the decision to leave arriving guests stranded at the airport was not — and it was made worse by the fact that the space wasn't even clean when we finally got in. A pile of dirty laundry from the previous guests sat on the laundry room floor for our entire stay and was never removed.Equally disappointing was a pervasive lack of basic supplies for eight guests: not enough bath towels, sheets, blankets, or pillowcases; no kitchen towels; insufficient toilet paper; and nothing as simple as salt and pepper in the kitchen. The property has real charm and works well for a large group — though be aware the kitchen table is small and dining together means squeezing onto stools. The space itself wasn't the problem. Hosting eight people requires stocking for eight people, and the lack of care around these basics was a real letdown for what was, for us, a once-in-a-lifetime trip.
