'We enjoyed the bell tent and tipi we had for the night. The children wanted to know why they heard sheep bleating in the field next door - it was late, but the noise level was peaceful. 'If you book a room with an outside hot tub double check you don’t get the Troutbeck room. The balcony is awful! Firstly, it is overlooked by a loft window above, so limited privacy and able to hear any conversations. On one side of the balcony there is two shipping containers stacked on top of each other, the other side an unkempt wall with a water feature attached. 'We booked Holbeck Ghyll as a special treat after two days of walking in the Lake District and were genuinely looking forward to it. The reality was a serious disappointment. The room was in a poor state of repair: mould on the bathroom ceiling, rusted window frames, failing grout and sealant with black mould in the tile joints, and paint peeling throughout the bathroom. These are not superficial issues — they represent basic maintenance failures that should not exist in any hotel, let alone one...

'Rooms are a decent size and good facilities. Bar is great with a good selection of beers and spirits. The food is fantastic! I have a dietary requirement and they catered for me and were very knowledgeable of the ingredients in the meals. Thoroughly recommend staying here. '
