Double hump camel or bactarian camel is found mostly in Central Asia but in Ladakh we have a sizeable population as it is proctected. In this picture we see two of them just after finishing with drinking water.

A SMALL VILLAGE WITH A HUGE HEART

A repeat visit to a region often means the opportunity to go a little deeper, to discover and be surprised.

During my second visit to Ladakh I didn’t need to wander very far from Leh, the beating heart of Ladakh, to connect with a little village and its community as deeply as I did.

From being introduced to one of the most pioneering education facilities I’ve seen to being invited to a gathering of the community, the little village of Phyang certainly has a lot going for it.

At the end of my visit to the village I stopped along the way up to the local monastery which towers over Phyang and took a moment to take in a truly incredible view that remains imprinted in my memory from that day.
