The “Schlafen beim Sandmann” vacation rental features a private entrance leading to the living room, which has a couch and a TV. There is also a small seating area that serves as the dining area. Adjacent to this is a small kitchen equipped with a refrigerator, sink, two stovetop burners, a small oven, a kettle, and a coffee maker. Dish soap and dish towels are also provided. The bathroom features a walk-in shower, a toilet, and a sink. The closet contains plenty of towels and a hair dryer. Hand soap, shower gel, shampoo, and toilet paper are also provided. The bedroom has a double bed (180 x 200 cm) with bedding included. From the bedroom, you can access the southeast-facing terrace. Here, you’ll find a small seating area and a large umbrella. All windows are equipped with electric blinds. If you’re arriving by car, you can park on the quiet street directly in front of the accommodation or on the driveway. Bicycles can be parked under the carport.

If you enjoy cycling, this is the perfect place for you, as there are many bike routes that pass through Dörpen or nearby. These include, for example, the Dortmund-Ems Canal Bike Route, the Emsland Route, the Ems Bike Path, and the United Countries Tour-Smokkelroute, which connects Germany and the Netherlands. There is also a bicycle junction system with signposts and numbers at every intersection. This makes exploring the northern Emsland region via “Cycling by Numbers” very easy. The polder town of Papenburg is about 17 km away; with more than 40 km of canals, it is also known as the Venice of the North. Here you’ll find the famous Meyer Shipyard, home to the world’s largest covered dry dock. At the shipyard’s visitor center, you can learn a lot about the history of shipbuilding in Papenburg and marvel at the ocean giants under construction.
For golf enthusiasts, there is an 18-hole golf course in Papenburg.
Lake Heeder is about 5 km away and offers a water-skiing facility for sports enthusiasts; you can also sunbathe and swim on its fine sandy beach.
Leer in East Frisia, with its beautiful old town, is about 32 km away; the city is also known as the gateway to East Frisia.
Thanks to its proximity to the Netherlands, Bourtange Fortress is also just a short drive away, about 15 km. The mid-18th-century fortress has been lovingly restored, is still inhabited, and hosts many events.
Wellness enthusiasts will also find the thermal baths in Bad Nieuweschans, Netherlands, about 35 km away. Here, you can relax in the thermal baths or try out the various saunas.
The proximity to the North Sea makes it ideal for a day trip. A day trip to a North Sea island is, of course, also possible, but it should be planned carefully, as ferry crossings to some islands are only possible at high tide and therefore do not follow a regular schedule.
