We booked this home believing we had the entire property to ourselves. At no point in the listing did the host disclose that people live full time in the basement or that the driveway is shared. We only learned this after booking, and once we arrived it was immediately clear this was a shared living situation.Within 30 minutes of being inside the home, we could hear the people below us, especially in the ensuite bathroom. Knowing sound carries throughout the house made us uncomfortable, as we were traveling as a family and expected privacy. We never would have booked this property had this been disclosed upfront.After the host denied our cancellation request, we found the same listing on other sites with multiple reviews from other guests expressing the same concern about the lack of disclosure. The host responded defensively to those reviews, insisting it is not a shared property despite people living full time in the basement. The host did not apologize to us and instead stated that other guests have been fine with it.The home also does not appear equipped to support multiple households. After one shower, there was no hot water left for our children’s bath. Towels provided were child sized and dark colored, making cleanliness hard to assess, and there was no regular hand soap at the kitchen sink.While the main living space could accommodate our Christmas gathering, the lack of transparency made this stay stressful. Future guests deserve clear and honest information.
